3.0 out of 5 stars Lee Child - One Shot
Book was in very good condition. However, I expected full sized hardcover book. What I received was A Delacore Press Book, published by Bantam Dell. The book is not a full sized hardcover and I was not aware of this at time of purchase. It may be my mistake, I may have missed something in the write-up.

This is Jack Reacher at his best! Six Shots and five people dead in an American midwest city. The police catch the sniper, the only problem is the guy claims he did not do it. In come Reacher and in his indominatable way he turns the case inside out and upside down. The Jack Reacher character is brilliant, multi-layered, but most of all, he kicks ass when he needs to and always gets the girl. One Shot was extremely well written, suspenseful and twisted and turned like all his others, but I think the characterizations of Reacher in this one is probably not as deep as in the previous book, but for a plot driven thriller, it's five stars all the way. Nothing is as it seems in this gritty thriller. This and "A Tourist in the Yucatan" are my favorite thriller reads of 2005!

5.0 out of 5 stars JACK REACHER - WHAT A GUY! WHAT AN ADVENTURE!, Jan 27 2013

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Over time many of us have chosen a few fictional characters that we particularly enjoy - we look for the next book featuring one of them very much as we would look forward to a visit with an old friend. We know who he or she is, we’re familiar with that person’s personality quirks and ideals. Jack Reacher is a favorite with millions.

For me, it all began with The Killing Floor and I was hooked. Thanks to British author Jim Grant who writes under the pen name Lee Child I met Reacher, a stoic tough guy who has several uncanny abilities, such as knowing exactly what time it is without referring to a clock. He’s a former U.S. Army Military Police Major. He’s a terrific fighter with an immense technical knowledge of weaponry and prefers being alone.

A movie was filmed late last year based on this novel starring Tom Cruise. My problem with that is I know Reacher is 6' 5" tall, weighs about 250 lbs, has blondish hair and ice blue eyes. No offense to Mr. Cruise but decided I’d simply listen to Dick Hill’s compelling narration. What can I say, Hill (yes, the actor with a mantel-full of awards) has narrated 8 Reacher novels - he simply is the voice of Jack Reacher.

One Shot is aptly named - six shots have been fired but only five fatalities. Well, the cops are on top of these slayings and within hours the shooter is behind bars claiming his innocence and hollering for Reacher. Well, Reacher knows this shooter and doesn’t hesitate. Did I mention Reacher’s intelligence? Not only does he know the shooter but is aware that the man is a trained military sniper and would not have missed a shot.

One Shot is another pulse-pounding trip to an explosive finish enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reacher ... Great read., Jan 21 2013

Great character. Need to read the book to understand what makes this character tick. Movie couldn't do it justice and fell short. The type of Hero that doesn't ride off into the sunset, rather just fades away until called upon again ...

Un bon thriller-J'aime son style d'écriture et le suspense. Je ne le connaisait pas avant d'avoir vue le film avec Tom Cruise. En espérant que je connaisse le même succès avec mes livres.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reacher Scores with One Shot., Jan 11 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jack Reacher: One Shot: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
This is an excellent story, well told, and should not disappoint any Lee Child fan. All the Reacher books are great but this is one of the best. It starts out with a text book murder enquiry, gathering overwhelming evidence leading to an arrest which it seems must be of the right man. Even Reacher, though specifically asked for by the accused, believes he is guilty and he wants him convicted. But all is not as it seems and it takes Reacher and his many talents to unravel the twisted tale and deliver his own inimitable version of justice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Reacher yet!, Aug 10 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: One Shot (Hardcover)
Lee Child has outdone himself with One Shot! Outstanding novel - possibly one of his best yet in the Jack Reacher series. This novel has it all - suspense, kick-ass crime, really BAD guys, great humour, and Reacher is smart, sexy, tough as nails (did I mention sexy), and highly intelligent. Plus this book is packed with the best hand-to-hand combat scenes done thus far in any Reacher book.

"The Hard Way" is the next one forthcoming - bring it on!

5.0 out of 5 stars He's really back, July 28 2005
By
Susie Sharon (Orleans, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Shot (Hardcover)
The Jack Reacher novels had me hooked from the first line of the first book. The 7th book, The Persuader, was a bit disapointing. But the series redeemed itself with the 8th book (The Enemy) and now, this one, One Shot.

Jack is at his best. He's a loner with a borderline case of "not my problem" attitude. But when he gets pulled in, he puts himself all in and goes all out. He's a sort of hero, not by choice but by carreer. He's left the army, he's no longer enforcing the law but it's in his blood. So when he sees injustice, he gets involved.

In this book, Reacher gets involved when he sees a news clip and recognizes a man he once made a promise to : Step out of line again and I will find you. So when Reacher hears the man has killed, he goes to find him. But not all is as it first seemed and Reacher is left to adjust and rethink the situation.

Once again, a good book from L. Child. Can't wait for the next installment.
