5.0 out of 5 stars First it will make you smile, then cry, Jun 23 2004
By A Customer
I LOVE this book! I admit I only read it after seeing the movie, but i am sooo glad i did! it is the BEST book I have ever read! I am only 15 years old and have read it at least 30 times since i was 13. I have actually read most of Nicholas Sparks' books, but this one really stood out and touched me. I sit there and SOB for literally 30 minutes after i finish reading it. Jamie and Landon are both believable characters which made me fall in love with this book. This novel proves how fate has a way of working out. Landon was always mean to Jamie, but they ended up together. I suggest a big box of tissues when reading this because of all of his books, it is the saddest because Jamie is such a sweet character and was a good person. I just hope other people will read this and realize how absolutely wonderful this book is. I never thought i'd smile and cry so much from a book! You will LOVE "A walk to remember" so read it, you won't regret it! And if you're too lazy, rent the movie, which isn't quite the same or as sad, but still the point of the story gets out there. It's good for people my age to realize how lucky they have it and how not to judge other people because you never know what they could be dealing with at home or in their personal life. READ THIS BOOK!! ;) I'd give it 100 stars, but this only goes up to 5!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ BOOK!!!, Oct 2 2003
By
"A Walk to Remember" tells a story of a 40 year old man looking back on his senior year of high school as well as his first true LOVE! Nicholas Sparks plays with your emotions and makes you want to keep on reading. There were many moments in the book where I didn't want to put the book down. I wanted to keep on reading until I found out what was going to happen next. This was somewhat of a simple book, but Nicholas Sparks has an interesting way of writing. I don't really like reading, but I enjoyed reading this novel. It took me into another world. A world that was much different from mine and a world that I could definitely learn from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wine and Coffee, Nov 11 2006
This review is from: A Walk to Remember (Hardcover)
There are two sorts of novels: Those you need tons of coffee for in order to get through and those you need wine for. A nice glas of red wine, a stormy autumn evening, raindrops on your window - and Nicholas Sparks. His story inspires you; it inspires you to change the course of your entire life. Indeed, the story is predictable, everything is clear from the very beginning, in cause you did not realize when starting reading that Jamie and Landon are up to something you must be a complete moron. Notwithstanding the fact that the protagonists are falling in love with each other it is rather HOW they do so which is of importance.

In the prologue it is said that the story makes you both smile and cry - there is no doubt about that. But in the end it is not joy - it is sadness that overwhelms the reader.

Sadness that the story is over.

Some of Mr Spark''s novels are a disaster: this one is not and it should be recommended to everyone. Certainly one may consider it being lowbrow literature, pulp fiction, fiction for the masses - who the hell cares? It is just a good read! And maybe even more than that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Different from the movie, Jan 21 2011
This review is from: A Walk to Remember (Paperback)
As most books are, it is quite different from the movie. I won't reveal any spoilers in my review but in my opinion, the movie was a little bit better in terms of what Landon does for Jamie. The book brought on some tears at certain points and it was a fast and easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, Oct 19 2007
Landon Carter is now 57 years old and he is telling his love story from when he was a senior in high school. He still remembers the events of something that he thought was just a friendship as if it was yesterday.

Jamie Sullivan was a minister's daughter, who wore boring brown sweaters every day, always tied her hair up in a bun, and always had her Bible with her. She is the girl that you would think of when you would imagine the person who gets made fun of in high school. She had never been on a date in her life, and Landon was one of the more popular boys in his high school.

Landon didn't have a date for homecoming, so he decided that he would ask Jamie because she was too sweet to say no and wouldn't have a date yet. When he asked, she said "promise me that you won't fall in love with me."

After a horrible night at homecoming, Jamie asked Landon to play the male lead in an upcoming Christmas play that was performed every year, and was a very big deal in the town. Landon didn't really want to, but Jamie talked him into it because she was playing the lead female and her father had written the play -- and Jamie wanted the play to be very special. After about two months of constant rehearsals, the play was performed and the town knew that this had been the best year ever. And Landon had to admit that it went well, and that he was falling in love with dorky Jamie. But there is a secret that Jamie was hiding from Landon. What could it possibly be? And why did she tell Landon not to fall in love with her?

This is another powerful love story from an author that makes you believe in love. Read this amazing novel to find out the secrets of Landon and Jamie.

ANSWER THIS QUESTION
do you enjoy
A. reading books
B. watching movies better?
THOSE WHO ANSWERED A. read the book first, it was a GREAT book (though i watched the movie first so i didnt think it was the BEST)
THOSE WHO ANSWERED B. watch the movie first (as i did...not even knowing there was a book)

the movie was my favorite movie in the world. However, when i read the book, i was slightly dissapointed (so different)
its ur choice which you should watch/read first. I persononly LOVED the movie, i would suggest watching the movie first, becasue i know most people need a great love story that is different than the tyical predictable love story. if you enjoy the movie/book i would highly suggest reading SARAH DESSEN'S books. THE MOVIE AND BOOK WERE BOTH GREAT, GET THE BOTH, BUT BE SURE IN WHICH ONE YOU WANT TO LIKE MORE WHEN YOU CHOOSE WHICH TO WATCH/READ FIRST!

2.0 out of 5 stars A highly predictable book, July 16 2004
By
This is the first book I read by Nicholas Spark, after hearing many good reviews, and many translation of his work to movie screen. I pick this as the first book because of its size, a bit longer than 200 pages, so that I can finish it in 2 days.
I must say I am disappointed (not a bit, but quite a lot). Not only the plot was HIGHLY predictable, I don't think it is good on character development.
In Hong Kong, such similar themes have been repeated in the movies in the 50-60s . About 10 years ago, we had a movie called "C'est La Vie Mon Cherie" with similar theme, but with a much much much moving plot, much much much better characters. The female lead earned a best female actress award in the HK Movie Acadamy Award.

I know this review may piss some of the fans of the author, but I will keep on reading one or two more of his books to see whether I can change my mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Defiantly a Book to Remember, July 8 2004
By A Customer
I really enjoyed A Walk to Remember, by Nicholas Sparks. From beginning to end I was hooked to the story line, the characters, the joys and tears. I would recommend this book, as well as The Notebook, The Guardian, and Message in a Bottle also written by Nicholas Sparks. You won't be dissapointed, I sure wasn't.
