5.0étoiles sur 5 Street Dreams, Juil 11 2004
Par Sara L. Alguire (Haslett, MI United States) - Voir tous mes commentaires
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
While I have read all of Jonathon Kellerman's novels, this is the first I have read of Faye Kellerman's series'. While there were references from previous books that I didn't understand, I didn't find them distracting enough to bog me down in the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Faye Kellerman weaves an interesting mystery with the warmth of family relationships, and new love. I found it to be both riveting and heartwarming. How often do you find a book that does both? I am definitely a new fan!

5.0étoiles sur 5 Cracking the Maze of rape , murder and thuggery, Mars 20 2004
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
Street Dreams is yet another thrilling page turner by Faye Kellerman.
When LAPD officer Cynthia Decker finds an abandoned infant in a downtown rubbish dump, the hunt is on for clues, through the murky world of inner city Hollywood.

Cindy finds her love interest in an Ethiopian-Israeli male nurse, with lots of charm and mystique - Yaakov Kutiel 9the book focuses much on Cindy and Yaakov's steamy romance) , and soon joins up with her father Lieutenant Peter Decker, in cracking open a maze of rape and murder, in many sleazy and dangerous corners.

It is a story of the vicious thugs that pray on the innocent.

A side story takes place as Rina, Peter Decker's beautiful Orthodox wife does some of her own detective wife, also roping in 'Loo' Decker, to find out about the murder of her grandmother in Munich, Germany, in 1928.

Hence the story is set against the backdrop of both the rise of the Nazi regime in Germany , in the 1930's and the war of Arafat and his PLO mass murderers to eliminate the Jewish state today - the preparation for another holocaust of Jews.

The backdrop of the criminal motivated murder on the streets of LA is shadowed by the murder of Jews in Israel today, and in Europe so many centuries ago.

'Sweet Dreams' is a mystery enthusiast (like myself) dream come true. I was engrossed from the start and held spellbound until after I had finished the book. Kellerman is a writer that I truly enjoy!

5.0étoiles sur 5 New Fan for Kellerman, Déc 15 2003
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
"Bestseller Kellerman's latest Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus novel (after 2002's Stone Kiss) will please her fans, but is unlikely to make new converts"
I am a new fan of the Kellerman family. I really enjoyed Faye Kellermans writing and am now reading my first book by Jonathan Kellerman, but that's another story. Reading some of the other reviews, I came across this sentence and was quite surprised. I totally disagree because from the start of the book, i was totally captured. The book is written intellegently, yet easy to read. I intend to read more of Faye Kellerman books. My only problem with this book was the ending, I felt that she finished quickly and this took much out of the book.

5.0étoiles sur 5 Kellerman is BACK in fine form!, Oct. 21 2003
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
I have been disappointed with the last few books in the Decker series so I bought this one with some hesitation. I needn't have worried - Kellerman is back with a book that reminds me of the early books in the Peter & Rina Decker series. Kellerman focuses on Cindy Decker, Det. Decker's daughter in this mystery. Like the best of the Rita and Peter Decker books, this one has a love story interwoven with the mystery/police story that deals with cultural differences: Cindy meets and falls in love with an Ethiopian Jew. You don't have to have read any of the other Decker series books to enjoy this one, but if you have you will rejoice that all the familiar elements are here. The central mystery is well-paced and the solution isn't obvious unlike many mystery books. Peter and Rina play a supporting role but Cindy and her new romance are the stars. Welcome back Faye Kellerman!

5.0étoiles sur 5 Each Book Better Than The Last, Sep 29 2003
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
I have followed this series since RITUAL BATH, the first novel which I found completely by accident because of its cover and intriguing title.

I have never been disappointed by one of these books. The series has a tight and complex story arc. It is not at all like the typical Mystery Series with repeating motifs, not predictable like Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason or Columbo. If that is what you're looking to read, you will probably be disappointed.

But like those series, this one does capture the attention and keep one thinking. That's why so many science fiction readers and writers like myself also devour mysteries -- they make you think.

But Faye Kellerman also makes you feel. Mystery reading is usually a cerebral exercise, but this series details the pressure-cooker life that so many police officers lead. This series makes you feel the heat.

The Jewish family lifestyle is not just incidental decoration in these novels. It is always, in every book, including STREET DREAMS, integral to the thematic substance of the novel even when it doesn't figure in the plot. I've discussed this at greater length in my review column for December 2003. Click my name to find out more about me.

Now in STREET DREAMS Peter Decker has taken a promotion and has become management. But his daughter is in uniform and in danger. The wisdom that he has gained through all these previous novels and from his religious studies lets him guide her through the mine field. We have watched this man mature, and now we see him passing on the tricks of the trade.

STREET DREAMS takes place in the aftermath of the traumas we've seen both Peter Decker and his daughter Cindy survive in previous novels. This whole novel, with all 3 mystery plots, is all about healing trauma during a time of peace.

The resolutions of the 3 mysteries are completely unpredictable if you follow only the plot. Some veteran mystery readers will have their expectations disappointed by the ending, but actually the resolutions carry the real message of this book if you follow the emotional story line instead of the plot.

"Time Heals" -- trauma can be overcome only with enough time and enough intervening events to provide a new perspective. If you look at events from a different perspective, the same facts lead to different conclusions, different feelings.

The ending of STREET DREAMS succeeds magnificently in portraying the riches available only in maturity. It is all about perspective.

Most enticing is the hint of what the next novel will be about. The family is growing, getting more diverse and more complex, and more engrossing.

Live Long and Prosper,
Jacqueline Lichtenberg

5.0étoiles sur 5 top notch, Sep 24 2003
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
I had a very hard time putting the book down after I started reading it. I thought Faye Kellerman did an outstanding job writing this book. I am looking forward to her next book after this. I would like to know when will she be going back to Barnes and Noble to autograph books. She autographed one of her earlier ones for me.
Her husband Jonathan also is an excellent writer five stars for him.

5.0étoiles sur 5 I've been really disappointed...., Sep 22 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
in the way Kellerman had let this series meander in her last two outings "The Forgotten" and "Stone Kiss". Unlike many of the other readers I want to applaud this latest effort, picking up on Cindy Decker as the main character, and continuing her story from "Stalker".

It is true that if you haven't read the series, this book won't work for you. But like many patient readers of "series" mystery and thrillers, I get a little tired of the time and effort spent recapping the series for new readers. At some point, (and this is the 16th book in series), an author needs to cater to the fans that have been loyal enough to follow the series.....so, the action picks up without a lot of background noise on either Cindy or parents Peter/Rina -- a welcome relief.

Cindy's police work is supplemented this time by a much more realistic love story than her affair with a detective in "Stalker". Koby, the man she meets and falls in love with, is perhaps drawn too physically, but the sexual energy and attraction between them shines through, much like the early books portrayed the link between Peter and Rina. For once, Peter and Rina take a trip/vacation where there is no need for police work, and no family to "save" (thank goodness!)...their backdrop of searching for Rina's family past in Europe is a nice, humanistic setting for the primary story.

Cindy's got an interesting, realistic crime to solve, and there is some danger, along with a lot of help and advice from her father and Koby. The book moves rapidly, with the love and family stories seamlessly meshing with the police work.

If Kellerman can follow this book up with a winner, starring the new couple, she might be the first contemporary serial writer to successfully move her stories from one generation to another; an interesting accomplishment.

More!

5.0étoiles sur 5 Faye Kellerman never disappoints., Sep 20 2003
Par Un client
This review is from: Street Dreams (Hardcover)
Everytime a new novel by Faye Kellerman becomes available, I am reading it and anticipating the next one. These books are great reads, and Street Dreams is no exception. I love the intertwining of family issues, detective work, and religious traditions. This latest novel was particularly interesting because it deals with racism from a new point of view. Keep writing, Ms. Kellerman. Your books are great.
