I love to read Nancy Drew books! They are so exciting! In this one, Nancy finds a diary at the scene of a fire which leads to another thrilling mystery. I encourage all mystery lovers to read this book! As in all Nancy Drew books, there is TONS of adventure, excitement and cliffhangers.

This review is from: Nancy Drew 07: The Clue in the Diary (Hardcover)
When Nancy, Bess, and George happen to be out driving they hear an explosion. They see that a mansion has blown up and has started burning. Nancy, Bess, and George go onto the property to see if anyone was hurt by the sudden explosion. They learn that the mansion belonged to the Raycroft family. Mr. Raycroft she learns has a very shady reputation for swindling hopeful inventors of their patents.Nancy begins looking for survivors and happens to see a man slip through the hedge and disappear. She also learns that no body was ever recovered from the fire and starts to wonder about it. She later finds a diary that contains the important clue in this case. Meanwhile she has befriended a young girl named Honey. She learns that she and her mother are very poor and wants to help them. She learns that Honey's father Joe Swenson who is an inventor has left the family to go and seek work and mail money to them. To make things more complicated Nancy learns that Joe Swenson has become a prime suspect that may have caused the explosion at Raycroft's mansion. The reason being of course that Joe was swindled by Mr. Raycroft and has threathened him with harm. Nancy wants clear Joe's name because she thinks that the explosion may have not been just an accident. This book was great from start to finish. It had lots of tense moments and lots of adventure as well. Definitely worth checking out.

Dated Classic,

This review is from: Nancy Drew 07: The Clue in the Diary (Hardcover)
If you want to get started reading Nancy Drew, this book would be the place. Of all the ND series, I think I enjoyed this one the most. While Nancy and her friends' activities and dialogue seem a bit dated (don't forget most of these stories were written long before you were born) Nancy is a wholesome character who is constantly busy observing her environment and sticking her nose into places it may not belong. Of course, this kind of behavior is what makes a story interesting. This book deals with arson, stealing patents, and helping an innocence victim find justice.Wild bill recommends this book for mystery lovers aged 9-12.

After I bought the starter set that included the first six, I had to buy this one, because I wanted to start my own colection. This was probably the best out of the first seven to be honest. It's more complex than the others and I just love a good mystery. Buy it today!

This review is from: Nancy Drew 07: The Clue in the Diary (Hardcover)
Titan blonde Nancy Drew has a real nak for getting involved in a mystery. When Foxy Felix's expensive estate explodes into a huge fire Nancy and her friends Bess and George naturally go and check out the burning house. When Nancy goes ahead around the other side of the burning estate looking for survivors she spots a strange and mysterious figure running away from the scene of the crime. She finds two clues at the scene one including a diary that is completely written in Sweedish. She gets in some real trouble and the only people who can help her are three friends and her dad.I liked the Nancy Drew book The Clue in the Diary because it was a little slow in the begining but then got gradually into a real page turning book. I would stay up till 11:00 pm just reading this book it was so good. It really taught you the lesson what goes around comes around. I really reccomend this wonderful mystery to all!

The Writing Is The Only Good Thing About It,
By J. Thiel "jtthiel" (Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nancy Drew 07: The Clue in the Diary (Hardcover)
This review concerns the original 1932 edition and the revised edition published in the 1960's. Both books follow the same plot; although, the revised edition is slightly different from the original. While returning from a carnival, Nancy, George and Bess witness a large home suddenly burst into flames. Thinking that there may be someone trapped inside, the girls rush to the house to help. They are unable to enter the home because of the heat, but Nancy spots a man running away from the house and later finds a diary, written in Swedish, which contains numerous technical drawings. Did the man start the fire? Does the diary belong to him? And what became of Felix Raybolt, the owner if the home, who apparently has gone missing? Clues lead Nancy to suspect that the diary belongs to the husband of a poor woman that Nancy met at the carnival along with her little girl. Nancy becomes determined to prove that Joe Swenson didn't start the fire, but all of the clues she uncovers seem to suggest that he is guilty. Personally, I didn't find this book very good; there isn't much action, the mystery isn't very exciting and the book really lacks a true criminal. Thankfully, the writing style used in the book is rather enjoyable, so it keeps the book from being a complete waste of time. One thing to note about this book is that this is the volume where Nancy meets Ned Nickerson and oddly enough her first thought of him is that he is trying to steal her car! This book is worth reading for the writing, but its not likely that many fans of Nancy Drew will find this book to be one of their favorites.

My first Nancy Drew!,

This review is from: Nancy Drew 07: The Clue in the Diary (Hardcover)
I couldn't resist writing a review for my very first Nancy Drew. I recieved this book on Christmas day when I was nine years old and I am in my 40s now. I still have that book and presented to my daughter when she was an adolescent. She is almost twenty-one and she fell in love with Nancy Drew just as I did. I remember Ned, Bess, and George and the adventures they had. I haven't read any of the new mysteries but if they are anything like the old ones then millions of young girls must have the sleuthing bug as I did.

This is one of my favorite Nancy Drews. The plot itself is fun and there are moments of excitement, but what makes the book special is the beginning of Nancy's relationship with Ned, who becomes her steady boyfriend and adds romance (with some resistance from her) to many of the books.

This book was a very good book. I enjoyed reading it, because you never know what will happen next. My favorite part was when the family members of another Nancy Drew named Nancy Smith Drew were found,so that she could go home. I would recomend this book to anyone who is under 12 years old and loves mysteries.
