3.0 out of 5 stars Very Intense, almost too much.
I have to give it to Gaelen Foley, she is a very good writer and is very intense. This is the second book of hers I have read. I also read Lady of Desire. I have to say that I enjoyed that book a lot more than this one. Don't get me wrong, this book had some great plot climax's, but I couldn't get passed the horrible way Lazar treated Allegra. I know he was doing it...

The Pirate Prince is one of the best Foley books out there...and Foley is not a second-rate author! It will take you on a fantastic voyage that you'd never expect in a romance book.

Lazar di Fiore was cheated from his rightful throne as king of Ascencion and Allegra is the daughter of his archenemy.

As he fights to conquer his inner demons and find the strength to return to his kingdom and continue his family's seven hundred year rule, the connection between him and Allegra grow deep, with Lazar revealing nearly all his secret anguish.

Allegra, now knowing what a traitor her father is, is determined to help Lazar gain back his pride, honor, and kingdom at any price...even if she has to give up her heart.

As always, Ms. Foley brings a whole new dimension to romance, faultlessly bringing her characters to life and weaving an intricate tale that involves so much more than your ordinary fairytale, yet there is no denying that the characters' love for each other is soul-binding and everlasting.

I know he was doing it because he couldn't fathom lossing her, but he went WAY overboard. If I were her, I would have slapped him and took off an made him come find me on the island. I agree with another reviewer that thought he needed to try a little harder to get her back, she took him back too quickly in my opinion. I enjoyed the begining of the book, but wasn't as thrilled by the end of it.

All things said, however, I would still recommend it as a read to anyone interested. I will more than likely read the next series, "The Princess." The previewed first chapter caught my interest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great beginning-Poor ending, Dec 7 2003

I enjoyed this book until I got to the last few chapters. It then lost the rhythm, and skill of the rest of the book. It almost felt as if Ms. Foley had a deadline to meet and rushed through the ending without tying up all the loose ends. I don't want to give away any of the ending, but what happened to the Princess? Did she just fade away? Why did Allegra just accept Lazar, even after all the atrocious things he said to her? I think he should have had to fight a little harder to make it up to Allegra.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Pirate Prince!!!, Oct 29 2003
This review is from: The Pirate Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
This book really deserves 6 stars!!! It is one of the best romance novels I have ever read (and I've read many!!!)! Lazar is so dashing, so charming, so irresistible! I love him, I love him, I love him: The world should be filled with men like him. He's such a great person and you can't help but fall heda-over heals in love with him. Even from the start of the book we realise what a great guy he is! He's amazing! He's really sensitve towards Allegra's feelings and the fact that he is a pirate on the verge of being king makes this book's plot fantastic!

Allegra is a brilliant heroine too! I deeply admire her and I must say that I've probably never admired a person more! She's amzing the way she deals with things - especially at the end were she's treated as a whore heavy with child. She is the best woman for Lazar (as much as i loath saying that it must be said!!!) and Lazar is the best man for her. This book is charming and you'll find youself giggling at some parts and weeping at others!!! At least I did!

I TRUE ROMANTIC NOVEL! A TRUE LOVE AND A TWO TRULLY BRILLIANT HEROES! IM SO JEALOUS OF THEM!!!!
What a romance... sigh.
RECOMENDED - A DAZZLING BREATH-TAKING NOVEL for all those who are as helplessly into romance as I - A KEEPER.

This is the best historical book I have read to date. After I started reading this book, I could not put it down. I must finish it. The hero and heroine in this book are so romantic. I've read this book several times. This is the recommended book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!, July 15 2003

This was one of the best romance novels I've read in a long while, and I've read literally hundreds of them. The intriguing plot, the depth of the characters was superb. I felt like I really knew and understood Lazar and Allegra. Although I liked the Knight books, judging by this book, the Ascencion trilogy will be much better. My only criticism was the peculiarly American expressions the characters used throughout the book: "huh," "nah," and "honey." There are very few romance novels I will buy (I normally check them out for free from my local library), but Foley's definitely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deserves much more than 5 stars!, Jun 11 2003

This review is from: The Pirate Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
This is, without a doubt, the best historical romance I have read to date. I read her Knight brothers novels and loved them so I decided to buy her earlier books and stayed up until 3 o'clock to finish Pirate Prince. I didn't want it to end. Lazar is the perfect, tortured hero and Allegra is the perfect woman for him. I have to admit that while I read this book, I fell completely in love with Lazar, but how could it be helped? I laughed with him, I cried with him. It grabbed my attention from the very first page and at the end of the book, all I could do was sigh. Foley is a spectacular writer, in fact I'm awed with her ability to write just the perfect words page after page after page! Today, I start Princess and can hardly wait, if it's anything at all like Pirate Prince. Then Prince Charming and then I'll have to wait for her to publish another one. Please write faster!

I like Gaelen Foley. I have read the four by her with the Knight family and loved them. And, let's face it, when you like a particular author you read whatever they have. So I read Pirate Prince for that reason. I usually declare a book remarkable when I can name at least two lines and two scenes that really got me. I can't for this one but I give it a high mark because I would recommend it to others. I wish we had gotten to know Lazar as the pirate. I couldn't help feeling like the book should have started with him on the ship or in a pow wow with the other captains to let us like him a little more. I felt like I pitied Lazar before I began to like him. He was an excellent tortured hero though. Everything else was right on par for a Foley book. I literally would read anything by her. So I am of to be with Darius in Princess!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a great read, Mar 16 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Pirate Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
I didn't really enjoy this book. The guy, Lazar was horrible to the girl. He pushed her away and was nasty to her. Don't get me wrong, the writer did a good job. I really felt empathy towards both of them, so when the guy hurt her feelings, I sort of felt it. The third book in this series is good, a lot better than this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very romantic, Feb 15 2003

This review is from: The Pirate Prince (Mass Market Paperback)
This was possibly one of the most romantic books I have ever read. Ms. Foley has such a passionate style of writing. Lazar was such a sweet hero and Allegra was one of my favorite heroines. This book had everything-action, touching characters, and a romance that will stay in your memory for a very long time.
