5.0 out of 5 stars Sylvia browne is a legitimate psychic whose book was great
The other side and back was the first Sylvia Browne book I ever read. I was extrememly impressed, and of course skeptical when I first started reading it. When I read the other online reviews
( the negative ones), I was amazed at the comments. Sylvia Browne has been on many shows, Larry King live, Montel, among others. Her gift has been proven, and she has worked...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sylvia needs a new Spirit Guide
Though I'm not entirely sold on spiritualism, I read this book out of interest. I agree or don't argue with much of what she had to say, but had to contest some of her beliefs with a wide smirk, such as her notion that everybody on The Other Side is 30 years old (as told to her by her Spirit Guide, Francine). And although Browne admits to not being entirely accurate with...

This review is from: Other Side And Back (Hardcover)
The other side and back was the first Sylvia Browne book I ever read. I was extrememly impressed, and of course skeptical when I first started reading it. When I read the other online reviews
( the negative ones), I was amazed at the comments. Sylvia Browne has been on many shows, Larry King live, Montel, among others. Her gift has been proven, and she has worked on many police cases when their searches run out of leads (and she doesn't take money, or want money in any of those cases either). Her books, whether anyone believes them or not, only sheds truth about what life is about. She says to take what you want from the book, and leave the rest behind. In this day and age, where some religion teaches taught that you will go to hell if you don't believe, I think it is refreshing that we can have another perspective on things. And I think that's what scares people the most. The fact that there are legitmate psychic's out there who do have a unique gift from god, that don't promote the idea of sin or fear or hell. They are only trying to tell you not to live in guilt, to live in joy and happiness. But of course, be mindful of your actions. We are resposible for ourselves. She teaches to try to understand why the world is the way it is, the pain, the misery, why it gets so hard. That's what I learned from this book. I have an illness, and it's not easy. This book was extrememly enlightening, and like she says, take what you want, leave the rest. She is not trying to push it down your throat. She also gives predictions, and again, psychics aren't 100%, they aren't god, but good ones, are pretty accurate. She has an accuracy way above 70%. Also, psychic's timing of thier predictions can be off as I have read. So for the other comment, about why didn't she mention Iraq, and so forth. She actually predicted 9/11, but she was off about the timing. She predicted it, as I recall, for 1999, but of course we all know it happened in 2001.

Predictions change, b/c we change things when we make a different choice, or so I believe. She does have a newsletter, that releases predictions, and on Montel, they talk about future predictions as well. In case anyone would like to check it out.
But for her book, the Other side and back, it was the best book for me to start with, and I think it would be for anyone as well too. It gave me some answers with my constant battling of health problems. Also, I was lucky to find a legitimate psychic in my city, who believes in Sylvia, who had the same philosophy as hers, but who knew things about me that no one could of knew. I was amazed at his gift. He was 20, only knew my first name, and knew things like my illness, surgeries, siblings, etc. So beleive me, psychics exist.

Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome read, I'm Hooked!, Jan 24 2004
This review is from: The Other Side and Back (Paperback)
This book has totally changed my outlook on life and death for the better! I no longer fear death and have a more positive attitude towards life. Sylvia is inspiring and her content is easy to follow and makes sense. I found her to be very interesting and intriguing. I really enjoyed this book, it was hard to put down. I have not been much of a reader in the past but I am now! I am reading another one of her books and plan on buying a couple more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Revelation!, Dec 20 1999
This review is from: Other Side And Back (Hardcover)
All my life I was taught that God is cruel and punishing, that a murderer will go to Heaven if he repents, but a woman who seeks a divorce will go to Hell. What kind of God is that? Certainly not one that deserves my worship. In my very cells I KNEW that God wasn't like that, and after reading Sylvia's book, I am finally at peace with my beliefs. Everything she says are things that I instinctively felt since childhood. Instinct. It should have been my first clue. For years, I studied every religious tome I could lay my hands on, seeking the truth, but the more I read, the less I believed. I was completely torn apart, because I had problems believing in much of the Bible, but I knew God existed. Then I read this book, and for the first time, every word rang true. It was as if the knowledge was already there, behind a door, and the book unlocked it. It felt so natural. And best of all, now I know I'm not crazy. Yes, Preacher, I did have a past life, and NO I won't go to Hell because I must pay for the sins of my parents because I wasn't baptized. Sylvia's book explains why there are no coincidences, why I can't walk into an antique store, and why I have knowledge I didn't learn in this life. I no longer fear that my loved ones may go to Hell, nor do I fear death. I am more at peace than I have ever been, thanks to this remarkable woman with God's gift. Thank you, Sylvia! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Changing Book, Nov 10 2003
By A Customer
This book changed the way I look at life and live my life. All I had to do was read and it all sounded so familiar to my soul.

Anyone who puts Sylvia or her books down only does so because they have been so eluded by their own beliefs. They probably have never even read her books or any other spiritual material besides The Bible. The best thing about Sylvia is that she wants you to be skeptical. You should be. She does not force her beliefs and she doesn't have to. As long as you have and open mind you will know what is right.

Everyone should read this book. If anything it will give you something to think about.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sylvia needs a new Spirit Guide, July 4 2004

Though I'm not entirely sold on spiritualism, I read this book out of interest. I agree or don't argue with much of what she had to say, but had to contest some of her beliefs with a wide smirk, such as her notion that everybody on The Other Side is 30 years old (as told to her by her Spirit Guide, Francine). And although Browne admits to not being entirely accurate with her predictions, I think only one or two out of the several forecasts she made for 2000 came close to being true. However, it was nonetheless an interesting read, worthy of discussion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incomparable., Dec 30 2005
By A Customer
For starters, I am no fan of the self-help genre. In fact, I have read and analyzed hundreds of self-help books, and this one stands out in a class of it's own - SO MUCH SO - that I highly recommend that every one of us read it. In particular, Ms. Browne provides a healthy alternative philosophy of existence based on true self-empowerment and the care of the self as an inseperable bond with all. If one accepts her premise that life is hell and death is life, I think many of us can find a new way to relate to our existence not only as "on big bad camping trip" but as a "course" each of us helped designed when we CHOSE to be "born" from our mothers' wombs into certain lives with themes to challenge and enlighten us. The possibility of a nonpunitive loving great spirit which interconnects us all and doesnt force us to come back if we dont get it right this time should be a huge awakening in global consciousness, if not a relief of the highest order! It forces one to take a long hard look at one's self from an approach of freedom in the highest sense providing tools, basic explanations to common questions, nonempirical experiences, and collective concerns for those who care to give a damn to look around ourselves and our roles in the bigger picture. Read this book; you might be pleasantly surprised at how it might make your camping trip here a little more bearable. Or even what you wanted to learn by coming to this hellhole in the first place.
Totally worth ten bones.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get It From The Library, Dec 31 2003
By A Customer
For someone so talented this book was shallow and superficial at best.
I suggest getting it from your local library if you really feel you must read it, ... If you really want to know what it's like on the other side look to some of the "Old Masters" work such as Edgar Cayce he donated his life to this work and research. Not to a woman who has become a legend in her own mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and Wonderful, Dec 26 2003
By A Customer
After reading many books by several empowering authors such as Betty Eadie, John Edward, Dannion Brinkley, and Tiffany Snow, that I am still reading, my life has opened up to me in such a compelling and wonderful way. This new book is well written, and thought provoking. There are great transforming authors, who shift the consciousness of humankind in a way never known before, and have the courage to reveal their paranormal experiences. "The Other Side" is one of these.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Comforting Book Concerning the Other Side, Jun 4 2003
By
A helpful and inspiring guide to understanding the meaning of our lives without being too far away from traditional concepts, but it can become an extention and can add hope and expectancy as we live our daily lives. This is a book one can refer to and think back on whenever daily life becomes a bit confusing and there is a need to know more about the questions of "Who, where, when, why?" that go beyond traditional religious concepts.

5.0 out of 5 stars *Spiritual Inspiration For All*, May 27 2003
This guide book was amazing. It truly opened my eyes to a new way of looking at faith, and helped answered some questions of my religion. Syliva Browne explains the meaning of our lives in this "guide book." I love this book for changing my perspective on the world beyond and the place I live in today.
