4.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, July 22 2011
This review is from: Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office (Paperback)
I'm generally not into books that seem too "girly", but Lancaster has a wonderfully funny and light way of writing that makes her work easy to read and amusing at the same time. As for the story, some readers may become annoyed by her personality. Stick with the book if you feel this way in the beginning. Take a look at the title and sub-titles. If you like those, you will like this book. Even if you don't think so, if you have a sense of humour and appreciate witty sarcasm, you will like this book. The great thing is that Lancaster has no qualms about discussing her own faults and is very honest. She doesn't remain the same way as she was in the beginning of the book, but she doesn't change so much that it becomes unrealistic. It's a very believable take on serious issues.

Although this was her first it was the second of hers that I read. Another beauty! It's great for anyone who has lost a job. Great to have someone that you can relate to. Her style of writing is light and fun. A must read for anyone!

I originally got this book from the library a few years ago and loved it. I was also job hunting and not having much luck. I really enjoyed Jen's book so much that I bought another copy recently so I could read it again. Everyone I loan this to loves it as well. She's so funny and honest, it's quite refreshing. The book is so original and entertaining I couldn't put it down. Many nights I stayed awake until 2 am because I couldn't put it down. It's that good. Fantastic. Loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny, Nov 11 2007

If you like the "shopaholic" seris by Kinsella, then "Bitter" will keep you up trying to finish the book. Wry, dry, and accurate, it is both funny and disturbing on so many levels. Would also recommend "The Devil Wears Prada" for another great book.
