Katie MacAlister's first foray into the steampunk genre is a huge succes, IMO. She's written a funny, sexy, interesting, and intriguing story about an airship captain who is piloting her first command, the Imperial Aerocorps Airship Tesla. Enroute to Rome her crew discovers two stowaways (Jack and his sister Hallie) unconscious in the ship's hold. From there it's a non-stop adventure with Octavia Pye and her loyal crew sailing a steamship across Europe, fighting off the revolutionary Blackhand, evading Moghul hordes, and racing back across Europe to London to save Hallie from being executed as a spy. Katie has created a wonderful alternate world where steam engines and clockwork inventions are the norm and electricity is far too dangerous to use. I can't wait to read more Octavia and Jack! Well done, Katie!
