5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, easy, and enjoyable read.
This book covers all the fundamentals and systems my family has used over the last 9 years to accumulate a portfolio of over 50 properties. I was pleasantly surprised with the many gems of wisdom throughout this book. It's a resource I'll keep close at hand as we build our real estate portfolio.

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating At Times and Incomplete
There is useful information between the covers of this book; unfortunately, most is buried within the context of conversations with the author, his friends and his "student". I did not like this style of writing at all and found it frustrating, at best; almost like reading a poorly written novel with truly inane dialog about skipping stones across a lake and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally - Practical Investing Advice that Works!!!, Mar 9 2006
By
Andrew Hewitt - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is the best real estate book I have ever read--bar none! The advice makes sense and gives the average person the strategies, confidence and tools they need to get off their fanny and start buying properties. I really appreciated the Property Due Diligence Check List in chapter 9. WOW! Finally a simple way to ensure I've done my homework before buying a property. A great way to invest with confidence!

Chapter 5 (How to tell if a town will boom or bust) was my favorite. I've never seen the 'fundamental drivers of real estate values' laid out in such an easy to understand fashion. I now know EXACTLY what to look for when investing. This knowledge is absolutely invaluable and is information anybody investing in real estate (or thinking of investing in real estate) can't go without.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in real estate. It is such a small investment for the thousands of dollars it will save/make you on each property you purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Real Estate Investing in Canada, Feb 1 2010
This review is from: Real Estate Investing in Canada: Creating Wealth with the ACRE System (Hardcover)
97 Tips for Canadian Real Estate InvestorsI recently purchased three different authors to gain additional buy/hold insights for investing in Canada. I found the Don Campbell's books to be very practical and easy to read. I particularly enjoyed the 97 tips. The tax recommendations are recent and applicable to our market vs the States. When you purchase one of his book, the money is donated to Habitat for Humanity. If you are new and want to hit the ground running in real estate investment, his books are an excellent source of information with sound advices.

4.0 out of 5 stars WIREconnections - we love it!, Oct 17 2005
Thank-you Don!
WIREconnections Members have read and applied your teachings. A conservative, realistic approach to building wealth by investing in Real Estate. Having is system to follow is the foundation of success. A step by step system when followed is easily repeated time and again. This book is a great value for content provided!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Beginner, Too, Aug 5 2005
By
The ACRE system, as taught in this book, is fantastic! And the key word here is 'System'. Everything is laid out in a step by step fashion, from analyzing the towns, to the neighbourhoods, to evaluating the properties, to advice to dealing with tenants. I've been reading up on personal finance for about 8ish years, and it's been geared pretty specifically towards real estate for about 3ish, but I hadn't acted until I was taught the ACRE system.

But let's give you something more concrete.....
I have never made over $28 000 in one year, and I live in a major city in Canada. Yet, using his system, I was able to buy a single family detached home, in an area that is obviously up and coming (it's in a transition area), near a major transportation area....and it takes me literally 3 minutes and 17 seconds to walk to work. On top of that, even if the Ottawa market flatlines for years, and the government stops spending money in Ottawa, and the reno's I've done add nothing to the property's value.....even if all of these outlandish possibilities came true, I would still be making about a 10% return on my money, as over a third of my mortgage is paid for simply by renting out parking spaces.

I used his systems to buy my first house for myself, and I'll definitely be using them to buy some true investment properties as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Timely, July 26 2005
By
Dale (Sasktoon, Sk.) - See all my reviews
Thanks, this book was very timely in my life, as a veteran Real Estate investor with over 23 properties, I found that I was hitting a wall with my Real Estate portfolio.

The information alone starting on page 37... Fundamentals on why Real Estate goes up in value was brilliant, completely changed my thinking about the area and properties I have been purchasing.

As well the section on How to Get the Bank to Yes!! was the most helpful in securing new mortgage funding.

Once again thanks this book is a must for everyone from first time home buyers to serious players.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction and overview but weak on financials, Aug 28 2011

This review is from: Real Estate Investing in Canada: Creating Wealth with the ACRE System (Hardcover)
Written in the style of The Wealthy Barber, it is a bit long to read a times. It's a great book to set you in the good direction but it is not enough to make you take a well informed decision. The financial side lacks. With this book, you would buy a property if you though the environment had a future and it has a good GRY (which he calls the Cashflow Zone) and some really basic cash flow calculation.
I almost gave it a 3 but I thought the book was a very good intro. But it lacks a lot and you might think it is an invitation card to sign up to the author's REIN network to see if you could get the rest. There is a lot of motivational content which I find a bit tedious but some might need it.
So I recommend the book if you are new at this. I thought it a very useful introduction so I gave it a 4 but 3.5 would have been better. For solid financial evaluation, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a book for Canadians that works!, Sep 4 2005
By
Mark G. (Toronto, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
After reading a lot of books and taking a lot of courses, this book finally fills the gap. It does it practically and teaches you the basics you need to know to really buy property. No fuss, no muss, just do it using a simple approach. The other guys tell you stuff to sell books, Don tells you stuff to buy properties.

I have purchased several properties using these exact systems.

Thanks Don!
