Anything but a Drupal Book, Sep 19 2009
Well, if you're really new to programming, want to know a bit about extreme programming and requirements gathering, are strictly in a LAMP environment AND have the luxury of being able to control everything from scratch, you may get some benefit from this book. Seeing that none of the above applied to me, I found the book rather disappointing.
I see this as perhaps a good candidate for a two-semester intermediate programming course rather than a book that anyone with any real-world experience would appreciate. I purchased many WROX books before and I was always impressed with the professionalism and level at which they started. I found this book to be, well, patronizing. I gave it the benefit of the doubt more than once and tried to plow through it, but every time I just gave up on it.
The main problem with the book is that it tries to do too many things and comes across as condescending. If you know what you are doing and want to dive in with Drupal, save your time and money and get another book. I can't suggest any other books because I decided to roll up my sleeves and implement my own CMS based on phpBB.
