This review is from: Diabetes for Canadians For Dummies (Paperback)
I loved this book. i was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and wanted to get some answers. The internet is a good ressource but there is alot of false information online so i thought i would give this a try and i wasnt disappointed. I believe this is a must read for all diabetics and family members who have loved ones with diabetes to understand the illness.I would recommend to anyone

A Good Basic Guide to Diabetes,
This review is from: Diabetes For Canadians For Dummies (Paperback)
This is a great little diabetes resource, particularly for newly diagnosed individuals and their families. The book covers both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, with the focus predominantly on type 2. It is chalk full of useful tips and basic care information, though for those who have lived with diabetes for some time, much of the information is redundant. The version I read is pocket sized and easily fits into a purse or small bag, so it would be super-easy, and handy, to carry around when first diagnosed, in case a quick reference is needed.I would recommend this book to newly diagnosed individuals, especially type 2's. For those with type 1 diabetes, this book is not ideal, especially since there are lots of more thorough and specific texts out there.

Diabetic Dummy No More!,

This review is from: Diabetes For Canadians For Dummies (Paperback)
I have been living with diabetes Type 1 since the age of 18 and have struggled with taking my diagnoses seriously. I had a 2 year self-care hiatus and decided that pricking and poking myself several times a day was beginning to sound more appealing than being sick and having bad skin and break-outs (i know, beauty isn't everything). I decided to purchase the "Diabetes for Canadians for Dummies" and I couldn't be more enthused about having Diabetes and dealing with it's in's and out's. This book made understanding my diagnoses a snap and I have begun to check my sugar regularly again and take my medications as directed. Thank you "...For Dummies" for being here for us dummies! :)N.L.

Explaining Diabetes clearly and simply.,

This review is from: Diabetes For Canadians For Dummies (Paperback)
I have just been diagnosed with Diabetes. As a person totally inexperienced to deal with this, I have found this book very helpful. It is organized in bite sized pieces of information so that the reader is not overwhelmed. It presents the information with helpful diagrams making it easy to see the implications or the necessities required in caring for oneself with this disease. Of all the books I have looked at, this one is my favourite. It willnow be my reference book as I care for myself.

Comprehensive,

This review is from: Diabetes For Canadians For Dummies (Paperback)
Very comprehensive, but slightly scary when it warns you of the risks and potential complications that can result from diabetes. As a newly diagnosed diabetic, not yet needing insulin, I am not sure I wanted to know of the additional risks and complications presented by the use of insulin (but maybe later I will need the information). The book is ideal for those recently diagnosed and, as yet, still coming to terms with living with and managing diabetes, because it starts with the basics, then goes into increasing detail, while presenting the ideas in a simple, and understandable way. If you are serious in trying to understand and manage diabetes this book can help.

This is an excellent reference book on diabetes. All aspects are covered in detail. The nice part about this book is that it's the Canadian version and contains all the test result numbers in Candian measurement units. Highly recommended.
