5.0 out of 5 stars The Female Q
I am a HUGE James Bond fan (especially if it's Pierce or Sean), and have always loved the gadgets he uses. So when this book came out, I HAD to read it. I liked it so much that I loaned it out to one of my co-workers. Favorite gadgets? The knock out lipstick and the shrink wrap condoms. I also wouldn't mind a a little vile of that truth serum perfume. Boy, would THAT come...

This is the 4th Linsay Sands book I have read. On the basis of the first two: Single White Vampire and Love Bites, which I absolutely loved and which grabbed my attention from page one, those books put Ms.Sands at the top of my Favorite Authors list. However, after reading this and Always, I hope Ms. Sands sticks with the vampire comedy genre. I am so looking forward...

5.0 out of 5 stars Spy vs Spy in a laugh riot parabody of Bond Books!, Mar 27 2003

Lynsay Sands is a super historical romance writer with a light touch that often ventures into sidesplitting giggles. She is one of the best at leaving you feeling good all over when you finish reading her novels. This is her first contemporary romance and it is a fun romp! In the Ladies from B*L*I*S*S* series (various writers) by Dorchester Publishers, this is the 3rd entry in the spoofs on James Bond books, right down to the parody of the 1960’s covers. In Lynsay’s typical warm and funny style, she gives you one delicious romp! WARNING: if you have a chest cold or broke ribs do not read. If you are in a public place and do not want people looking at you - do no read there!! You will laugh so hard you might hurt or embarrass yourself!!

Jane Spyrus makes gizmos for B*L*I*S*S* spies - and wow what gadgets!! Won't spoil the surprises and tell you about them, but let’s say you will be howling from page one and Q would most certainly blush! Due to malfunctions, Jane takes some of her gadgets home to work on improvements. Her neighbor, Edie, has a hot date with a mystery man, so she comes by to borrow a few things from Jane. Without realizing, she takes one of Jane’s spy gadgets that contains a tracking device. Jane figures she will get it back from her later, only Edie does not come home. The tracker comes in handy when Edie’s sexy brother, Abel Andretti (no groans please!), turns up looking for his missing sister.

So Jane, her wheelchair bound, ex-spy grandmother, Gran’s dog Tinkle and Abel are suddenly in hot pursuit of Edie who stumbled onto a super spy ring ala T*H*R*U*S*H*, and was kidnapped and smuggled in a back of car from Canada into California. Abel is totally unaware of Jane’s true line of work, but soon finds out there is more than meets the eye where this lady is concerned, especially after she knocks him out and handcuffs him in the back of her van. Jane reports back to B*L*I*S*S*, figuring they would send in the “real spies” to wrap things up. Instead, Jane is pressed into being a super spy/femme fatale with the help of Gran and the sexy Abel.

I know Lynsay is a little nervous, this being her first contemporary novel, and afraid her fans might not want to read her first non historical. To me, Lynsay Sands on the cover is a guarantee you will have a wonderfully, funny time and once again, she delivers a witty tale laced her brand of wacky humor. And for those looking for an inside joke: keep watch for author Melanie Jackson and her husband to turn up as “characters” in this delightful tale.

In the ladies from B*L*I*S*S* series (a series of spoofs by Dorchester with various writers on the James Bond Books), Lynsay gives you a down to earth spy vs spy. Jane Spyrus is into making gizmos for BLISS spy - and wow what gadgets!! Won't spoil the surprise and tell you about them, but lets say you will be howling from page one!! Jane's neighbour borrows something accidentally - a tracker - thinking it is something she needs on a hot date. Jane figures she will get it back from her later, but it comes in very handy when the neighbour's brother turns up looking for his missing sister. Jane, her wheelchair bound ex-spy grandmother and the brother are suddenly in hot pursuit of his sister who stumbled onto a super spy ring ala THRUSH.

Suddenly, Jane is forced into be a spy instead of an inventor and it is once more one of Lynsay's delightfully warm and laugh out loud tales.

I know Lynsay is a little nervous, this being her first contemporary, and afraid her historical fans might not want to read her first contemporary. To me Lynsay Sands on the cover is a guarantee you will have a wonderfully, funny time!...

However, after reading this and Always, I hope Ms. Sands sticks with the vampire comedy genre. I am so looking forward to more of the Family Argeneau series. I had looked forward to Loving Daylights but was very disappointed. It was just a little too light of a romp. It had no substance, too little romance, much too much descriptions of ... everything, especially the Goodinov house -- to the point of boredom. Frankly, I didn't find it all that funny either. It was amusing in parts and just plain silly in others. My body couldn't decide whether it should fall asleep or scream! It was definitely a book I could put down and take a breather from. I did like the truth serum though. Unfortunately these good scenes didn't come up until the last half of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Howlathon!, April 21 2003
This review is from: The Loving Daylights (Mass Market Paperback)
Lynsay Sands rocks with this zanny paraody of the Bond books. I cannot recall when I Have laughed so hard. Her tale leaves an open door for more Jane Spyrus tales and I, for one, will be in line waiting!

Lynsay Sands always makes people laugh, a rare gift, but this one was just so funny from start to finish.

A good way to shake off the post Winter blues!

I really liked "Loving Daylights" even though its not the type of romance I usually read (humor). I must say however, Ms. Sands' writing is the bomb. She manages to make the heroine: Jane Spyrus and her boyfriend Able to be quite endearing.

Here's the scoop: Jane is a gadget techie working for super-secret spy organization called: "BLISS," when her best friend Edie is captured Jane and Edie's brother Abel go after the missing girl with funny (and humorous) results.

I enjoyed the Loving Daylights. Mostly because I think Lynsay Sands has a gift for good characters, interesting situations, and well written dialogue. I also like the male characters. She doesn't write your typical "Alpha boor" males which (as the name implies)bore me to tears. Instead her men are well-balanced, thoughtful and most of all normal. I also enjoyed Jane's "Inventions" especially the missile launcher and the amazing shrinking condom. LOL. And lets not forget her sidekick "Tinkle" the dog. Too funny.

Sands' writing was fun, fast-paced, and had impressive Dialogue. I hope for a sequel with Dirk- or maybe even a serious romance/spy story. Ms. Sands certainly has the talent for it. 5 Stars for a fun, amusing read.

My husband didn't know what to make of me laughing so hard I was wiping tears from my eyes! (I offered to let him read the book, but, like so many men, he cringed at the mere thought.) This was a hilariously good read. Check your serious side at the door and lose yourself in the simple fun of reading this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny Bond take-off, Aug 18 2003
By

This review is from: The Loving Daylights (Mass Market Paperback)
While belonging firmly in the Romance genre, this series is a take-off of the Bond books, and here we have the absent minded professor type, who designs and tests a variety of gadgets, including the tampon trackers, shrink-wrap condoms (ow!) and vibrator missiles. Seems clear what Jane Spyrus' (Spies R Us?) mind has been on.

But the tampon tracker is being tested in a most immediate manner when Jane's neighbour and almost-friend Edie (if Jane had time for friends) goes missing. Cue for one gorgeous brother to show up, and Jane, her retired spy gran and Abel to climb into Jane's specialised van and zoom off to save the girl.

Realisim flies out the window here, this book is strictly fun. But romance with a comic touch is a Lynsay Sands speciality, and this is a great example. There are plenty of laughs - I particularly enjoyed the prototype demonstration - and some great gadgets. The evil kidnappers are a good threat for Jane, Abel and Gran to go up against. I didn't always agree with the handling of the romance between Jane and Abel - particularly the sojourn to a B&B which was a bit clumsy as a 'time out for sex' moment - but overall I found this book to be a wonderfully wacky comic story.
