Good but not as good as the other two (3 1/2 stars),
By Kim "Kim" (Seattle) - See all my reviews

Okay, I'll preface this by saying that I found this book to be entertaining enough and the writing was good. But, when compared with Roberts' other work and the other two books in the series, it didn't hold up her normal level of quality. My biggest problem is that Mia was the strongest and most compelling woman of the three from the series but her story was the least compelling of the trilogy. That was disappointing. I liked that Mia and Sam were Fire and Water and had the complimentary and yet fire and ice sort of relationship. Thing is, I didn't find the whole idea of him leaving the way he did and yet coming back and expecting her to fall at his feet very enticing. The way he left was cruel and I couldn't understand why she should take him back or even why we're supposed to believe he had this deep love for her. The Sam of the present was not the Sam that left Mia, but you're supposed to think he is except for this glaring mistake. Yes, people change but I didn't buy it. So much happens in the story that you don't understand or seems to come from nowhere, big and important parts of the story seem to have been added at the last minute. I thought the end was totally confusing and even though I read it a few times it still seemed to come out of left field. Usually Roberts does this sort of thing exceptionally well, and she did in the other two books, but this one left me feeling unsatisfied. All in all, it was interesting enough to hold my attention and it was nice to see the character progression for Nell and Ripley but it left me feeling flat.

much higher! I couldn't believe how Roberts dropped the ball on the last book. Mia in the previous books was shown to be strong, confident and fearless, but this book tore all that apart, and left me with a feeling of what happened? In many parts Roberts didn't write directly what Mia was thinking, or doing, which led to a disjointed feeling within the book. And the part about Sam coming back as the 4th element? That was so out of left field. I don't know what went wrong, as the other two were so strong. Ripley and Nell were both strong in this book as any other, and Ripley grew tremendously within the book from the previous ones. Buy this to finish up 3 sisters, but don't expect it to be your favorite book of all time.

Leaving something to be desired,

I absolutely loved Dance Upon the Air and Heaven and Earth. This book was fair, but when judged against its predecessors it falls short. Mia and Sam's relationship seemed unrealistic: Sam's sudden desire to return to Three Sisters and Mia's sudden epiphany at the end of the story (which I couldn't understand.) However, the characters and background from the last two books made this story enjoyable. I loved the suprises Nell and Ripley both had. So, in the end if you liked the first two books, you might as well read the third just to finish the story of 3 Sisters Island.

Although all of Nora Roberts books could stand alone, you wouldn't be hurt by having to read the others in her trilogies. I couldn't wait to get to the the third book in the Three Sisters Island trilogy. This one is Mia's story. All through the first two novels I caught myself wondering most about the most mysterious character, Mia. Ms. Roberts saved the best for last. Mia is faced with a tough dicision. After years she still nurses a broken heart and now has to face the one who broke it. Not only that, but events transpire that could end her world as she knows it.Ms. Roberts has outdone herself with all three books in this series. I enjoyed all three, and I finally got the questions answered regarding Mia I had been waiting for. As all others in this series I couldn't put this book down. This is a book I could easily read again.

Sweet story and FULL of romance!,

Face the Fire is a great weekend book, full of romance and a hint of suspense. Nora Roberts did a wonderful job developing the characters. It was easy to relate to the main characters and picture the story developing. Unlike some of Nora Robert's trilogies, it is not necessary to read the first two books in the Three Sisters Island Trilogy before reading Face the Fire. The stories are not interrelated. Highly recommend this romance novel for any romance fan, not just Nora Robert's advocates.

Nora, what happened????,
This review is from: Face the Fire: Three Sisters Island Trilogy #3 (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok folks Nora got me hooked with the first book in the trilogy. Excellent read {5 stars}... The second one was not a good as the first but still very good {4 1/2 stars}. I was so excited about the third novel that I went and got it the first day it came out. I just could not wait to see how it all ended... What the heck happened to the third novel??? Very anti-climatic and almost boring compaired to the first two books... I was very disappointed with the ending of this trilogy.

This if the second NR trilogy I've read just recently. As I read each book the characters stayed with me thru the day and I looked forward to reading more and more. The trilogy allows the characters to continue and add more layers to the story. I thought NR did a wonderful job developing Nell, Ripley(Ripley made me laugh alot) and Mia. The men they were tied to where equally interesting. I also enjoyed the magic of three sisters and their island. Having magic that you can share when intimate.....hmmm!All three well worth your time.

Read and find happy ending or not,
By
This review is from: Face the Fire (Hardcover)
This is the conclusion of the Three Sisters Island trilogy. The three-centuries-long-legend of witches finally comes to an end by facing final battles with malicious entities. As you know, the first tale was that of Nell, the Air. The second tale was that of Repley, the Earth. These two stories are only the introduction of this third tale. The story of Mia, the strongest witch finally begins. Young Mia ardently fell in love with Sam Logan, who felt crushed by her strong love and fled to the main land to regain his confidence to face with Mia squarely. After long heart-breaking years young Mia regained her self-control and grew into a cynical independent business person running a book cafe. This stabilized equilibrium was abruptly broken by the return of Sam Logan. In reality he was also a witch called Water. That changed everything. He was really an important character who would decide the outcome of the final battle with the evil thing. This wicked thing materialized in the dense fog as a black wolf and began attacking Mia and her close friends. This story doesn't unfold the detail of the legend of the Three Sisters Island even when facing the final battle. Readers will be surprised to know the style of ending which are not told until the last moment whether it requires the sacrifice of a witch or comes to a happy ending. The Book Cafe is a great shop where you can savor Nell's delicious dishes and read interesting books after entertaining the sightseeing trip around the island. I would surely love it if it ever existed.

"Face The Fire" Is A Wash-Out!,
By
This review is from: Face the Fire: Three Sisters Island Trilogy #3 (Mass Market Paperback)
"Face The Fire" is the final book in Nora Roberts' Three Sisters Trilogy, and unfortunately provides a whimper of a finale instead of the expected bang. Her first book, "Dance Upon The Air" is excellent. The second, "Heaven And Earth" is slightly weaker, but well worth reading. This novel, which should have been her strongest, as Mia, her protagonist is the most powerful and interesting of the sister witches, falls into cliche and repetition. It is just plain boring and a big disappointment.Three Sisters is a small, rocky island off the coast of Massachusetts. Legend has it that the island was once a part of the mainland. Back in the late 1600s, during the Salem witch trials, three sisters, good witches all, known as Fire, Earth and Air, conjured the island and made it a haven against persecution. Unfortunately, the sisters did not fare as well as their island. All three were doomed by unfortunate relationships and a misuse of power. Before the last sister died she cast a spell to keep the island safe for 300 years. At that time she prophesied a reunion of three sisters, descendants of the original three, who would join together to redeem their ancestors, right the wrongs of the past and save their home from destruction. Mia Devlin, owner of the successful bookstore-cafe on Three Sisters Island, is a strong sorceress, of the white witch variety. She lost the love of her life, Sam Logan, when he left her without warning or explanation ten years before. Mia has closed herself off from intimacy to avoid the fate that destroyed her ancestress 300 years earlier. Sam returns to the island looking to renew his relationship with Mia and runs into a brick wall. Although the chemistry between the two sizzles, Mia is determined not to let Sam back into her heart. As with her sister witches, Nell and Ripley, Mia must face the dangers of the curse that holds the island hostage. It is up to her to meet and challenge the evil that threatens to destroy her home and loved ones, and to triumph over it if she is to save them all. Unfortunately, Ms. Roberts brings back the same old, now exhausted threads & villains of books one and two, which do nothing to spruce up book three. What a disappointment! Mia and Sam have the potential to be her most interesting characters, but their story gives new meaning to the word "hackneyed." I read the novel to see how everything ends up, having an interest in the characters from books one & two. I should have read an Amazon customer review instead and saved myself the time and money. My advice is to save yours.

A Good Ending,

This was a good ending to a great trilogy. This wasn't my favorite book of the series, but it definitely had it's good points. I don't think this was the greatest book NR has ever written, but it's still a great book to finish out the series. It ties up loose ends, and clears up some of the questions still riding from the other two books in the "Three Sisters Island" Trilogy. All in all, this was still a good novel. It moved quickly and kept my attention.
