I'd been skeptical of this series, but after watching the Catching Fire film earlier this year, I thought - maybe this won't be so bad. The first film/book were okay. The second is definitely best. The third book took a bit of effort to get through and I definitely didn't enjoy it as much. There were times when I was speed reading just to get from one point to the next.
Personally, I hope that authors get off this first person kick. I prefer third. Hate spending an entire trilogy in one character's POV.

A bizarre piece of fiction that has a disturbing element of possibility of what the future may hold, once our current version of civilization collapses, which is likely inevitable. It is not explicit that this a view of the future. Very easy reading, but hard to stop despite being a little repetitive in its theme.

A tale for teenagers, since it is written with simpler style & words with few characters. I had just finish "The Wheel of Time" & the comparison was too big not to acknowledge it.

I was excited to get this set which arrived quickly and on great shape and looks just like the product depicted in the amazon site. I happily read through the first book in under 24 hours. Forced myself through the second one in three days and took every ounce of my strength to get through the final book in over a week. What started out great became too self-involved and preachy by the end.

I don't like the quality of the papers.
Feels very dry on touch.
I like the hard container. it makes it looks fancy... but that is all.
In overall, I do not like it as much but it is okay.

I've delayed writing this review for months in the hope that time would soften my disappointment. I really, truly wished to like this series (despite the hype) and reading book 1 it seemed I would get my wish.... Alas, it was not to be....

Book 1: Book one started with a bang. We meet our heroine Katniss - she is simple, honest and ultimately good - she sacrifices herself to save her beloved sister. She is not perfect - her personality can be abrasive and she is a little too honest to play politics and games... at least at first. All-in-all, book 1 flew by, well written and well crafted. We see the characters begin to grow, and we mourn with them when they lose things that are dear to them. Rating: 5/5

Book 2: Essentially a rehash of book 1 in my view. Ultimately, I believe the author couldn't find anything to build on after the success of book 1. Slow, but still worth reading. Rating 4/5

Book 3: Utter disappointment. This book destroyed the entire series for me. The author takes the easy way out. I can't say much without spoiling this for potential readers, but Katniss takes a major step back in terms of character development. "Choices" aren't really made as if the author herself cannot bear to choose. The ending feels rushed as if the author was a high-school student pulling an all nighter to complete an essay in time for class. Events don't all make sense.... and many seem just pointless. I, as the reader, was left wondering what had happened.... and if the book was written by a ghostwriter (because honestly there was nothing of the well crafted book in this. Rating 1/5

I found the trilogy good but not extraordinary. The first book was tedious to read but the second and third are more interesting.

Good for preteens although some violence. Plot sometimes slow, characters lacking in depth. Makes a good beach book as minimal attention needed.

Had some issues as what i thought i was purchasing was a trilogy which turned out to be only one book from the set. But they did resolve the issue for me .
