Not the best Predator novel.,
By Craig Bard (North Adams,MA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Predator: Big Game (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a fan of the Predator movies and books. I read Concrete Jungle,Cold War and this mess called Big Game. Some things i like about it include the Predator scenes and the action. What I didn't like about it were: No Predator POV, and the Predator only used it's shoulder cannon. No disk...no spear...no wrist blades. I also didn't like the end. In the Predator novels and movies the Predators always cover their tracks in the end. And the goal I think is that Earth doesn't get it's hands on the technology. The ending makes it so it could be taken. That sort of ruins it. If you are looking for great Predator stories check out Concrete Jungle and Cold War.

Half-Way Decient,

This review is from: Predator: Big Game (Mass Market Paperback)
Out of the 2 predator books I've read (this and Cold War) this is the better one. It has more action in it and even shows some (when I say some I mean a few sentences) parts of the book from the predator's point of view. The book was relatively well written and I thought it was worthy of recieving 3 stars. But if you're trying to decide on either Cold war or Big Game, go for this one!

Pulp,
By Inspector Gadget "Go Go Gadget Reviews" (On the trail of Doctor Claw) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Predator: Big Game (Mass Market Paperback)
It's been a while (or six years) since I've read a Predator book. I remember liking them when I was a kid but now, after being exposed to writing far more sophisticated and intelligent, these kind of books are no more than pulp. But entertaining in a lowest common denominator way. The story of 'Big Game' is taken from the 1993 comic book of the same name. A native American soldier is hunted by the predator out in the desert. They fight in unexciting ways and the mystical babble preceding every chapter about Indian legends and spirits being invoked to fight the Predator fast become repetitive and boring. It's not terribly unique or engaging. There is no atmosphere or pathos. Characters are introduced, described and then killed. You can tell as soon as a new character turns up that they are going to die if they have less than a paragraph of description to them. The book feels very padded this way.And the Pred himself is kinda boring. There's no connection to him or real sense of menace. In fact, tho the writer calls him a hunter (but never once a 'Predator'), he appears to be more of an indiscriminate murderer than an alien hunting for honor and sport. A rather weak story indeed. But perhaps I'm being over-critical. This is a book for 13 year olds or someone looking to pass the hours of a long journey. Do not read Predator: Big Game looking for sophistication or a thumping good slice of Predator lore. It's low-quality stuff. The constant spelling errors only prove this.

Predator Big Game,
This review is from: Predator: Big Game (Mass Market Paperback)
This book has a really good moral to it!I liked this book because it ties in with Indians, and that makes for a good plot in my opinion. It is about a Navajo Indian, who is in the army stationed in a desert base, and he confronts an alien life form whose sole purpose is to prove to humans that they are not the dominant species. There is a lot of action in this book as well as blood and gore, so someone who likes the Aliens/Predator series will love this book. But because of how many typos there are in the book, I will give it a 4.

This is my first predator book and i thought that it was an exellent one. It starts out talking about predator and that makes you want to read further. The gore is very detailed and the action is intense, the story was great. Get this book by all means. You will regret it if you dont.

I thought Predator Big Game was a wonderful book. The gore sceens were very well detailed and it had lots of action. The last five chapters or so were very exciting. I also enjoyed the legend portion of the book. I won't say anymore because i don't want to spoil the plot for anyone. But,definently buy this book.

Predator-a mechanical mess with action included.,
This review is from: Predator: Big Game (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read the book called, Predator-The Big Game, which is a take off from the movie Predator. In the movie, Arnold Schwartzenegger plays the star role of an army commando who confronts an alien. In the book the main character is a Navajo Indian, and a Corporal in the United States Army, who takes on a self proclaimed mission to seek and destroy an alien who has come to make sport of killing Nakia's (the Indian) friends and family, or anyone else in that matter. This book was written like any other copy of a good book or movie, with the intent to make money. In the book the writing is very mechanical and the author, I mean authors, Sandy Schofield, the pen name of a husband and wife team, provides no depth for the main character. When I say mechanical I mean that the writing does not flow it just takes steps, and very weak ones at that. Apparently the authors were hired just to rewrite the movie in book form, and in a different setting. But I guess everyone needs a job, and when it's just a job one will do it just to get it done and get paid, with no personal inspiration added. I will agree that the story did hold my interest, and the graphic descriptions of the gore scenes were very good. Also the action that takes place in the last few chapters is very exciting. So I say, hurray for Nakia and his valiant effort in the killing of this monster and to the authors I say, your effort was just okay.By Woodrow Eugene Longoria |
