This review is from: Bryant & May off the Rails: A Peculiar Crimes Unit Mystery (Hardcover)
Hot on the heels of the events from "Bryant & May On the Loose", our favourite elderly London detectives, Arthur Bryant and John May are determined to find Mr. Fox and stop him before he kills yet again. In "Bryant & May Off the Rails," the Peculiar Crimes Unit has grudgingly been given a new lease on life, but only if they bring the murderer from the earlier tale to justice within a week's time; and in the meantime, there is a sudden flurry of seemingly random deaths, possibly accidental but certainly suspicious, in the London Tube, around King's Cross and St. Pancras stations. Are the deaths linked? And can the crime(s) be resolved in time to save the PCU? The only clue is a sticker pasted to the body of one of the victims, used to advertise a pub but also an ancient symbol of an anarchist society. Can Bryant and May and their team work their magic to turn this scrap into something that leads to a solution? For it turns out, things are even more complicated than they seem....This novel is really a continuation of the previously mentioned "Bryant & May On the Loose," reviewed here too, and I had the luxury of being able to read the two books back-to-back instead of waiting the 10 months or so between the publication of each. Since both are available now (I write in January 2011), I would heartily recommend that readers of this series do the same - keeping in mind the events of the earlier book is harder to do if it's been a year since you read it, after all, and the two are so closely linked that having the opportunity to read them in sequence with no lapsed time is a privilege that shouldn't be squandered. Recommended!
