This book is well organized. Throughout, I clearly see that it was written with the good intention of helping parents and their children. The authors made an honest attempt to write a practical and useful book.
Nevertheless, I am in doubt about its practicability. I was drawn to this book because I read that the authors were doing research in brain science. Consequently, I expected them to be experts in their particular fields and be able to explain in a nontechnical language some useful findings related to children's brain development. However, I am interested to know what studies the advise provided in the book is based on. I find this useful in two ways: First, I feel I obtain more insight of how the brain works if I know what were the exact purpose, setup and results of a particular study. (Analogies of the brain as "a river" or "a house" are not useful because I am unsure how far they may be pushed.) Second, conclusions of cutting-edge science should be taken with a grain of salt. Scientists are ready to rethink their theories if new evidence comes in light. As a result, the ready-to-use recipes provided in the book about how a parent should interact with his/her children are not quite useful. Any one of these pieces of advise might be erroneous. Unfortunately, the parent is not given the opportunity to be convinced one way or the other.
In conclusion, although this book is written with care and good intention, I find its readership is expected to consist of children, rather than their parents.
