4.0 out of 5 stars good book, June 16 2004

This review is from: Dawn's Wicked Stepsister (Paperback)
Mary Anne and Dawn have become stepsisters but it didn't go as they both expected once they moved in together. True Mary Anne seemed a bit cranky and touchy(you may want to read the end of Mary Anne & The Great Romance about her feelings to get an idea of why) but Dawn was being a bit stubborn too. If she wanted Mary Anne out of her room, she could have suggested it nicely or called a family conference, even though the way she scared her out was really really funny and exciting to read. It was a creative plot, but at the end of the day, I don't see how Dawn could sleep at night with doing something that cruel to someone who is supposed to be her family. It makes you wonder whether she has a conscious. Actually I wish I could read this story from Mary Anne's point of view too, I'm interested in knowing how she perceived Dawn and her mother. After all, Dawn didn't seem that nice or accepting towards Mary Anne either in following books in my opinion, you're just going to have to read future Dawn and Mary Anne books and you'll know what I mean. But then again, that is kind of realistic since some stepfamiles have a hard time adjusting. Another part of the book that was interesting was how all the Pike kids were sick, some had chicken pox while other had bone injuries while others had colds, it must have been hard on them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very real portrayal on stepfamily adjustment!, Nov. 23 1999
By A Customer
I liked this! It was a very real portrayal of the struggles to adjust to life in a stepfamily. Dawn discovers that being friends with someone & LIVING with that person are two different things. Dawn & Mary Anne each have different habits, like Dawn is a vegetarian & Mary Anne is a junk-food & meat lover. They discover that the CAN'T share a room & nearly drive each other to the brink of insanity when Dawn wants the radio on & Mary Anne needs complete silence to study. I thought it was funny & creative how Dawn thinks up a way to scare Mary Anne, who still believes in ghosts, into a near-faint! Poor Mary Anne! All in all...realistic.
