Losing Joes Place,
By Bob (china) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Losing Joe's Place (Mass Market Paperback)
Losing Joe's Place was a pretty good book. It seemed like everytime you turned the page something new happened. It is about these three boys who leave for the summer to live in the big city. They are able to stay at a friend's borther's apartment. Once they arrive at the apartment complex they find out its nothing like they imagined. First of all the apartment complex is located in a dull and dumpy part of the city. Then they meet their landlord Plotnick, which is not a pleasant experience. He is a grumpy older man who has a major attitude problem. which is not a pleasant experience. After they are all settled in their apartment they go out for the night and have a good time, but in the morning they find out that they have a very large bill. After paying the bill they are flat broke. The boys get a job at Plastics Unlimited. One of the three boys figure out a way to design an automatic feeder system. So that eliminated the need for feeders, the other 2 boys. The boys spend most of their summer jumping from job to job. Throughout the book the three boys have little feuds with the landlord, Plotnick. The three friends conquer obstacles everyday such as finding their stolen car or paying a hefty bill. But whatever it is it will keep you turning the pages. I would definitely recommend this book to younger people, though adults would have fun reading it also.

I haven't read this book in almost six years, and I still remember it as one of the funniest and enjoyable books that I've ever read. I remember laughing out loud as I read the story. I recommend this book not only to young adult readers, but anyone who reads for entertainment. It's great!

i love gordon korman, and most of all i love his older books featuring high-school students, who are capable of acheiving much more mayhem! this book follows the adventures of three boys who borrow one boy's older brother's apartment in the city for a summer. they soon realize that they are in way over their heads, but in the end their creativity and sheer luck pull them through. a wonderful book

Losing Joe's Place was the best book I ever read. I thought it was the best book because it was three boys who had and apartment to themselves for the whole summer and they end up messing up everything. It was funny to see them mess up the apartment they were in, not get the girls, and not even have enough money to pay the rent. Not only was that funny but when they first got to the apartment it was nothing they expected. They thought it was going to be beautiful and big but it was in the ghetto area, one room apartment, over a deli, and the paint was peeling off. When reading this book I did not lose interest once. Every page you turn there is something happening that makes you want to read what's going to happen next. The author was going from bar fights to two guys going out with the same girl at once and it just grabbed my attention. Not only were the events in the book making me want to read more, but also the characters. Out of the three characters I liked Don the best. I liked Don because he tried to get all the women but was never successful but he never had a negative attitude. Ferguson and Jason would always say we have no chance but Don would also be the one who said we do have a chance. Also I liked Don because he was the leader of the group and he took charge of everything. The author did a very good job in creating the characters. I liked all three of them but Don more than the others. In conclusion Losing Joe's Place was a very good book. I learned many things from reading this book. For example don't take two friends with you if one of the friends hates the other. This caused many problems in the book and instead of Jason's plan to get them to be better friends they ended up hating each other more and more. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a humorous book or a book about teenagers. If I loved this book I think everyone would love it too.

I read this book roughly six times one summer about 9 years ago (I am 19 year old college student now) and I still occasionally think of random little things from it. Gordon Korman's books are much more clever and genuinely funnier than most books for "young people". The book makes you laugh out loud, which is the highest praise I can give.

Losing Joe's Place I will rate this book a four star, because this book was a excellant book for young teens. I liked it very much. It was lives. I also liked how the author described the way the apartment looked, and how old it looked. And how he described the part of city they were staying in. I recommand that many young teens read this book, especially for teens that like alot of comedy. The book I recommed to read is Losing Joe's Place, by Gordon Korman. They could not get any money, until one day Jason had this great idea that would turn there summer into the best summer of there lives. Three 17 year old teenagers have the best summer of their lives in the book Losing Joe's Place written by Gordon Korman. I loved this book because of the characters the author created, because of how the author described each place and situation, and I especially liked this book because of the conflict: 3 teenagers having to find jobs to pay for an apartment and to survive in the big city of Toronto. The strongest reason why I liked this book is because I think the author gave very good descriptions. He described the setting very well mentioning that in a very big city the 3 teenagers ended up having and apartment in the poorest part of the city. The author gives very specific details that can make you picture the scene in your mind. He says the teenagers arrive at Pit Street 1, they look around surprised. Then the car stops in front of a very ugly building. The author described how the building seemed to be built many many years ago and how the street was covered with trash. The author also describes the situation at a Toronto nightclub very well. He describes how in the club the boys could hear so many noises and not understand a thing. How the dance floor was covered with people and he describes how one of the boys faces the situation of having dropped a bowl of ice cream on a girl's head. The sound of the braking glass and the club being silent for a moment, the teenagers faces going red. There were many good descriptions. Jason, Don, and Ferguson arrive in Toronto thinking this will be the easiest summer of their lives: no parents, no rules, no problems. But they are disappointed when they find out where the apartment is located and how hard they are going to have to work to survive in the big city of Toronto. Money is their problem and Jason and Don can't keep one job, they are always getting fired, this makes it even harder to solve their financial problems. Until one day Jason has this great idea which makes their summer the ultimate summer of their lives. I enjoyed the book very much especially because the plot is about something that people my age are interested in. I love the conflict of the story and how every time it gets even harder for the 3 boys to solve. The struggling of the 3 boys is interesting and very funny and the situations they face make you laugh hysterically. Not only the situations but who faces them. The boys meet Rootbeer, a friend of Jason's brother. He is a giant and has very weird habits, like falling asleep suddenly and all of his strange hobbies. Rootbeer goes after easy money, so he is in all sorts of risky things, like for example boxing against some of the best boxers or getting hit by a two by four. I think the author did a great job creating this fun and weird character. There could have been no better characters than the ones in this book. The author described them very well giving specific examples of their attitudes that allows the readers to understand the characters better, sometimes it seems that you even know them very well. For example Don, Don Champion to be exact, we all know some boy who is always the center of attention, the popular one and Don is exactly that. He always gets all the girls and he is the best player in the hockey team, but sometimes being a little bit to show off can lead to very uncomfortable situations. I recommend this book to everyone all ages, especially teenagers that like action, suspense, comedy, romance and a good plot all in one book, and the book is Losing Joe's Place by Gordon Korman.
