Cleopatra, Daughter of the Nile,
By ravenclaw29 (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Royal Diaries: Cleopatra VII: Daughter of the Nile, Egypt, 57 B.C. (Hardcover)
Cleopatra is the daughter of King Ptolemy, and is a princess of Egypt, along with her sisters Tryphaena, Berenice, and Arsinoe. But Egypt is in a fierce war with the Romans, and it is definitely taking its toll upon Cleopatra's beloved father. He has left for Rome and has not returned. Cleopatra is left alone to fight a silent battle for survival while her evil, powermongering older sister Tryphaena hopes to overthrow their father from the throne and take the ruling from him.Fearing for her life, Cleopatra takes a few of her closest friend-servants and flees to Rome, in the hopes of finding her father. While there Cleopatra does meet her father, as well as a young Roman girl her own age named Julia, Julius Caesar, her future first husband, and Marc Antony, her future second husband. And so, the events begin to unfold... Kristiana Gregory has written an exceptional novel in the unique diary form to portray the life of a great and very intelligent queen of Egypt and of Rome during her difficult childhood full of betrayal, deceit, and feuds. Highly recommended!

Three cheers to one of the best books I ever read! This book brought be into the streets of Rome, Italy, and Egypt, as if I were an invisible character that was pulled into the pages of the book when I started to read. The book was so good, when it came for book reports, even though it was slightly fictional, my teacher thought that the book was so good herself, that she let me use it for a biography!

This book was very instrestine. It was intrestine because I was a book base in real facts. This book said many tings about Cleopatra VII.One of the things I like about her was that she didn't care about her rish life, but she wanted to be the queen because her sister was very bad. Also state about her sisters and brothers. The only thing I did't like was when she marry her brother, but I was very intrestine and funny. It was intrestine and funny because you cannot marry your brother and sisters today. In my opinion it was a good book of Cleopatra's life.

Cleopatra VII Daughter of the Nile is a very good book for the people that like to know things about Egypt. The book is about Cleopatra that is the third one of 6 brothers and sisters. Her father is the Pharao Ptolemy XII who nobody respect and the people want to kill. Cleopatra's older sister Tryphanea tried to poison her so that she will take the throne and be queen. Later on the book tell you what happens with Cleopatra. Althoug sometimes i though the book was kind of boring I enjoided reading it.

Cleopatra daughter of the nile is my ultime favorite book! I love hearing about all the things she enounters in her life. Kristina Gregory has really done a great job on this book as she has on all her other books. She is a very talented Histoical fiction author and has definitely written some of the best books I have ever read! I mean this book in my mind is right up there with my second favorite book Pride and Prejudice. I usually don't read books twice but in this case I made an exception, I give this book as movie reviewers say "two thumbs up"!!!

Where to start in what's wrong with this book...,
This review is from: Royal Diaries: Cleopatra VII: Daughter of the Nile, Egypt, 57 B.C. (Hardcover)
Perhaps we can start with the boring hardly-developed characters, nonexistent plot, and plain bad writing. I was eager to read about Cleopatra's early life in Egypt, but alas, most of the book took place in Italy! There really was no climax to the story, and the characters I felt were just thrown into the story just so the author could say "Oh look, who showed up." A total waste of time.

This book is, in two words, horribly written. The story was told with cardboard emotion, the dialogue sounded unreasonably like a trashy play, the characters always either overreacted or underreacted. And Cleopatra used the word "O" far too much. I found the subject of the story quite interesting. It's a terrible pity it was wasted on such a horrible book.
