I found this to be a great succinct reference to Python(2.5), with the book being well-written and to the point. The purpose of the book is to provide an uncluttered reference to the Python programming language. It's not a book that will teach you how to program in Python (Programmng Python, or Learning Python will do that). The author divides the book into the following parts: Getting Started with Python (which is a basic overview of installing it); Core Python Language Aspects (which describes the core language itself and built-ins); the next section considers the Python Librarary and Extension Modules; Part IV deals with Network and Web Programming; and the last part, with Extending and Embedding Python. I didn't have any major criticisms of the book. The book is exactly what it claims to be, viz., a quick reference on Python.

There isn't anything more mandatory than quick access to commands you need everyday. The libraries are so vast and many, that I'd challenge you to not require years to get familiar with them all. This is a must have.
