It has a cute title but questionable value, April 12 1998

This review is from: My Name Isn't Martha, But I Can Decorate My Home: The Real Person's Guide to Creating a Beautiful Home Easily and Affordably (Paperback)
The author tries to cover too much ground in this work and hence doesn't cover anything well. Her ink blot test, which is alleged to be a way to discover personal style a is useless. She offers really stupid suggestions, like go to a wallpaper store an look at samples and make stacks of what you like and don't like and allegedly a personal style will emerge. Wallpaper books weigh almost 25-30 pounds each. Is she suggesting we go in and deface books, ripping out pages we like? What is no magical style emerges? Her book deals primarly with high end decorative treatment, Custom window treatment, custom upholstry and specialty floor treatments. Give me a break this is a $14.95 book with no photos or illustration. If it's aimed at the average consumer discussions of ready mades and limited color choices should be addressed. If she is directing this discussion at the high end, why the cheap book format.

Finally, a book that that gives you REAL advice on the often confusing and frustrating task of decorating your home. I loved Sharon's style -- not only is her book extremely reader-friendly, but I felt as if she was right beside me, explaining everything in simple terms, and giving me excellent insider information that I couldn't find anywhere else! I hope she comes out with more books!!!

Author really pushes the idea of getting an interior designer which was annoying. The book has great descriptions of products that are available including brand names. It will help you to think about options before starting major decorating projects.
