4.0 out of 5 stars Good but huge flaw.
Okay, this book was great, but for one thing I find i often get lost as to where the characters are, or what the setting is, though I haven't played the video game, I shouldn't have to. Secondly *****SPOILER***** When Leon blows up the crocodile and blood and stuff splatters on him, he doesn't get infected regardless of the open wound... what gives? At least mention the...

The original (UMBRELLA CONSPIRACY) was the beginning of the sometimes sterile/sometimes fun RE series, and it established that well in the first book, earning only 2 and 1/2 stars from moi. Caliban Cove was all original and a considerable improvement, earning 3 and 1/2 stars. CITY OF THE DEAD, based on RESIDENT EVIL 2, settles somewhere in the middle. It returns to...

5.0 out of 5 stars to fans of RE, Jun 11 2004

This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
in answer to all the stupid people who dislike books because they aren't "good Literture" i have a simple response: only retarded readers read for the sake of what's good literture. I read books because they are cool and interesting if you are a diehard fan of RE get this book and get the others. it was like the game, but duh, it should be somewhat, but it is well put together in terms of character and scenario coordination.
simply put: This book may be low quality lit' but it is cool and sweet, there are a few flaws, but who cares!

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! ! ! ! ! What A Great Book! ! ! !, Mar 18 2004

This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
Where to begin. It had a great story. Mrs Perry did a great job putting the RESDIENT EVIL 2 video game into a book. O.K the story begins with Clair looking for her brother Chris in the small town of Raccoon City. On her way she meets a rookie cop by the name of Leon Kennedy. They soon realize that everyone in the city was slowly infected with a virus that turns who ever is in contact with it into flesh eating zombies. This chilling, fun, horror mystery book should be read by teens (12-older) because it has its bloody parts and does have cussing in it ( hey if you were in there position what would you say...lol ). RESIDENT EVIL: CITY OF THE DEAD is a book that all RESIDENT EVIL fans should own. go buy it today! ! ! !

5.0 out of 5 stars City of the Dead, Feb 8 2004
By
This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
"Resident Evil" is a series, like "Lord of the Rings," but it is a longer series. Never had played the first versions of Resident Evil, but have seen my friends play it on Game Cube, and it caught my attention that it was a really dark and gloomy game. It scares people. Something which I like to do to my self every once in while, not sure why, but I like to watch and read scary stories because it's exciting, it goes in depth. I never really tried playing, but it was at another friends house that on his dusty book self my attention turned to one book, "Resident Evil: City of the Dead." I grabbed a chair and quickly reached for it, and my friend happily lent it to me never ever reading one page of the book. When I started reading this book every page was exciting.

I think this book was done extremely well and it was very, very exiting, at times I stopped reading at night because it just freaked me out. The author wrote this book with extreme awareness about how to catch the reader's attention. There are so many parts in this book that catches your attention that I can't even count on my fingers. Sometimes it's just getting too late and I want to stop but it's just too exciting so I go on, and usually stop only when the chapter ends. I am very pleased because I am not a reading type of person, but this book was one of the only books I really enjoyed.

S.D. Perry has written this in a very quick with character changing patterns, but after a while you will get the hang of it. The book has two main characters Leon and Claire, two from different backgrounds, and two fighting for different conflicts. Both ending up fighting back to back against the realms of Evil.
Now I am ordering the entire series by S.D. Perry, not saying you should do the same, but at least try one from a local book store or a friend, you might like it.

This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
Well, for starters im love the game so when i saw the book ihad to pick it up. So the book was based on the video game but it had way more to it than the game did,the emotions expressed by the characters felt real. i love how S.D.Perry brought so much dimension to it. Fans of the series would not be disapointed. okay the book is about Claire Redfield is in search of her missing brother and went off to raccon to search for him there, she soon gets some trouble and teams up with rookie cop Leon and try to escape, their adventures are filled with twists and turns, monsters, chief irons and others. But read it for ur self ,you will see. Claire&Leon Rock!...

5.0 out of 5 stars Unputdownable, Oct 9 2003
This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
The third book in the series but based on the second game. This one was so good that I read it in one night. It follows Claire Redfield the sister of Chris from the first book, and Leon a brand new character. Claire is in Raccoon City looking for her brother Chris when she is attacked by Zombies and saved by Leon who was supposed to start as a cop in the city. Unfortunatly they are split up and the book follows their different adventures.
Leon comes across a mystirious woman who claims to be looking for her boyfriend. Claire discouvers a small girl called Sherry Birkin who's father is a scientist for the Umbrella corperation.
It all leads to an explosive race against time to escape the Umbrella Facility and get away from two massive monsters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book, a must read for all Resident Evil Fans, Aug 31 2003

This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
Ok, first off the first RE expierence I had was with the second game (the subject of this book) and ever since I played that game I've been fasinated, and hooked on the Resident Evil series of all kinds. The games, the comics, the books everything. I have been lookign forward to the release of the 6th instalment of the game series. I thought I have read every online report, every game review, and detailed side story about Resident Evil...until I was told about this series. City of the Dead is the first one I picked up. It is an amazing book. I have beaten RE2, and I found it fasinating how S.D. Perry told the story from the POV (point of view) of all the characters, just not Leon and Claire. You get a inside look on Ada, Sherry, Annete Birkin, and the mysterious Chief Brian Irons. I can't wait to read the whole series and become a dedicated fan to the whole adaptation of the games. I enjoy the games, but I can't get enough out of them, and these books provide a more detailed story to the Resident Evil saga. Their is more to Resident Evil than all the books, games, comics, graphic novels, could ever provide, but this series does a very good job at making you understand the whole concept and story of it all more satisfying. I recomend this to all RE fans, because this truly is an awesome adaptation.

This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
City of the Dead, the third book in S.D. Perry's series of Resident Evil novels, more than covers all the ground from the video game it is based and adapted from (Resident Evil 2), but it is all the more compelling, scary, and suspenseful and is the true definition of a "page turner". The story begins a few months after the incident at the mansion in Raccoon City when rookie cop Leon Kennedy arrives for his first day on the job. When he arrives in the town; he finds it desserted minus the re-animated corpses with a taste for human flesh strolling around. He soon meets up with Claire Redfield who is searching for her brother Chris (the hero from the first game and novel); and the two encounter a host of other characters human and non-human alike. Perry's knack for developing her characters is in full effect here, and the reader never feels left out when the action goes full throttle. City of the Dead flows nearly identical to the game it is adapted from, which fans of the game will no doubt be pleased with. All in all, City of the Dead is one of, if not the, best books in Perry's Resident Evil series, and even if your not a fan of the games but are a fan of horror and zombie films than you should definitely give this a look.

This book is a great one at that. I had a good time reading it and it was more detailed than the game as it's explains more about how Raccoon has been completely destroyed by william birkin's creation. It also inroduced new character's to the series such as Leon kennedy, Clarie redfield. This was an intresting book to read and i have plan's to read it again,

4.0 out of 5 stars Raccoon City falls to the monsters of the T-Virus, and more., April 21 2003

This review is from: City Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
Of the three Resident Evil books I have read so far, City of the Dead is the best. For those unfamiliar with the game plot, it's a multi-character piece. The main focus more or less divided between Claire Redfield, searching for her brother Chris, he of the recently fallen S.T.A.R.S. Unit, and Leon Kennedy, a new member of the Raccoon Police Department who shows up to his first day on the job to a city overrun with flesh-eating zombies, skinless dogs, and snake tongued monsters. There are several supporting characters that add a mixture of mystery and motivation to the heart pounding action, which S.D. Perry shades with just enough background detail to let the novelization read well as a story. Having not played the game, I cannot rate this entry in the series on anything more than how much fun it was to read (this isn't literature after all, just escapism) and on that level it leaves me eager to dig into the next one. So, yeah, I recommend it, but only for fans of the Resident Evil universe.
