Come on, this book is so full of crap it's almost painful! It will take another book just to list them all. She doesn't know what she is talking about - no wonder since she so often list gov. sources! And then, there is IKEA. In one chapter, there is at least one bold IKEA per page. Obviously, she doesn't know where IKEA got there stuff from and who made it neither; well...

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% All-Canadian Guide for Treehuggers, Hippies, Concerned Citizens, and Bleeding-Heart Liberals!, April 22 2007
This review is from: Ecoholic: Your Guide to the Most Environmentally Friendly Information, Products and Services in Canada (Paperback)
There is no single word for how fabulous this book is, so I'll make one up: god-freakin-damn-fantabulously-amazing.

Seriously. I read a lot of environmental, current affairs, and social activism books - and this is one of the best. Clear, concise, full of sidebars, useful references, wry comments and witty dialogue, this book focuses on Canadian goods and services specifically. Want to know what is banned in the E.U. but not even on Health Canada's radar? How much oil you use a day outside of your car? Or how about which alternative, eco-friendly, non-toxic, sustainable products, companies, retailers, and websites to use instead of your regular nail polish, shaving cream, laundry detergent, mattress, or lightbulb? The one you know isn't great for the earth - and which, by the way, is probably ten times worse than you think?

For those of you with weak stomachs, sensitive nerves, or whom already think humanity is doomed, be warned - this book is blunt, unapologetic, and uncompromising. You'll feel ill reading it, but ignorance isn't bliss - in this case, it's deadly.

Want to help save the planet one simple step at a time? Adria Vasil's highly entertaining and informative ECOHOLIC will supply all the tips you could possibly need. Her informal and often humorous approach to some pretty grim facts about the amount of toxins we're wearing, inhaling, and decorating our homes with (and this is only a fraction of the big picture she presents) is enough to make one want to stay in bed, except that most bedding is chemically saturated. Adria demonstrates how everything we buy, consume, and excrete, effects our planet's increasingly fragile ecosystem. But she also offers practical solutions to coping with our toxic environment.

Although I've been recycling for years and shop as little as possible, I'm not a staunch environmentalist. Yet, this book made me realize there's many more eco-friendly things I can do. While plenty of information is given, Adria also provides many useful websites for further information, though how many of these websites will be around three years from now is anyone's guess. Still, given the growing concern for our planet, there will always good information somewhere on the Net. Do yourself and your children a huge favour. Buy the book, try some of those tips, and help make this planet a little better.

This book is a must read for every Canadian household.

Without being preaching, it offers countless tips on how you can live a healthier lifestyle while having less of an impact on planet Earth.

The book is organized in practical themes which allow for a reading by clusters, as well as going back to a certain chapter before heading for a shopping trip... it will allow you to make an informed decision as a consumer.

The writing style is witty, there is a good use of textboxes...

One of the best books I have ever put my hands on.

This is an amazing resource/reference book. Well written with a hint of humor! The book was published in 2007 so I'm a couple years late and I was worried that a lot of the websites mentioned or products/info might be outdated or irrelevant now but that was not the case! This book is definitely still relevant to today and a must have for all ecoholic Canadians and really, ALL Canadians in general. It's definitely a book that can be referred back to again and again. It can be a bit overwhelming at times since there is a lot of information covered and it's rather scary to think of all these chemicals lurking in our favourite products but I think it's something we should all be informed about so we can all start making cleaner, greener changes in our lifestyles. <3

My sister bought me this book and I was a little bit "ugh" at first...but then I started reading it! Adria Vasil is a funny, tell-it-like-it-is writer, and makes you THINK about your life. Everyone should know the info in this book. Vasil suggests lots of great eco-friendly products - I was already a bit of an ecogeek before reading, but this is a great book to give to anyone who turns up their nose at your passion for the earth.

This book is just flat-out amazing. It covers everything from food storage and floor coverings to recreation and travel. The best part is that it's Canadian, and you don't have to spend time tracking down American sources that may or may not sell/ship to Canada!
