this is why models have management,
By
This review is from: Wilhelmina Guide to Modeling (Paperback)
Like many models getting started in the business, I didn't know which way to turn. The hardest part is to qualify clients and to only work with those that will keep the image of you that you would like to promote in the market place. This book really doesn't outline this aspect of the industry. Good management is what got me a blossoming career in this business. Thanks to Digital White Boy Management, http://www.digitalwhiteboy.com , I've made it in this industry.

Very outdated,

I was not impressed with the lack of real information. I could have gotten more information by talking to a "working model" for 10 min. The fact that Wilhelmina has been a part of soo many modeling scams, makes me think that this "advice" is off base too. All fluff , and no substance.

Solid, but Not Great Intro To Modeling,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wilhelmina Guide to Modeling (Paperback)
Solid, but by no means detailed book of the modeling industry. I read this book in one day. The font is pretty big and a lot of the advice can be very vague at times. I highly recommend you look into Roshumba Williams book regarding modeling. It's fantastic, and a much better book. I'm a famous male model, and I learned it all from reading Roshumba's book.

I have been modeling for almost three years now; I wish I had read this book when I first started out! It does cover the business pretty well: how to get started, how to pick up speed and get ahead of the competition, etc. Very detailed advice on things YOU NEED TO KNOW, including what is expected from you by agencies and photograpers. I would especially recommend this book to all the aspiring models and New Faces out there!! Just remember that if you want to model, look up a few agencies and contact them TODAY! Never put off something so important that it can change your life forever!

I WISH I'D HAD THIS BOOK WHEN I STARTED MODELING,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wilhelmina Guide to Modeling (Paperback)
I bought it for my little sister. It tells you everything your agent doesn't have time to explain, BUT YOU NEED TO KNOW -- like getting started, not getting ripped off, pictures, meeting agents, working in all markets -- US and Foreign and finding out where you fit in the industry. Lots of anecdotes from models at all stages in their careers. It took me a while to start making real money in the industry. My sister's gonna have it easy!

I have been an editorial/fashion/runway model for 10 years. This is definetely the best book I have read on the subject. I wish I had been written before I started out, because it would have saved me from some of the pitfalls in the business. Natasha's writing is short and to the point, -without leaving anything out. It does contain a sample letter you can send to the agencies. It shows you exactly what kind of pictures to send to the agencies, as well. How to dress. What make-up to wear (or not wear). Everything you need to know. I love her chapter on the foreign markets (London, Milan, Tokyo etc.) because she describes it exactly the way it is. Another favourite chapter of mine, you get to know how photografers, stylists and designers feel about models....and what they expect from us. She walks you through everything from A - Z. I can't think of anything she forgot to write about. Best of Luck.....and go for it.

changed my mom's mind,

This review is from: Wilhelmina Guide to Modeling (Paperback)
my mom bought me this book because she wanted to convince me that i am too short (5'7") to model. but the book showed me what I CAN DO! Rebecca Gayheart and Kate Moss did it. Okay, so maybe runway isn't right for me. but, now i think i can start in my hometown and make some money for college! maybe visit New York in the summer? and guess what? my mom thinks so too!

This review is from: Wilhelmina Guide to Modeling (Paperback)
The best book I've seen for anybody smart and serious, whose starting out in the modeling world. Gives great do it yourself advice on everything from getting photographs to approaching an agency -- even what to wear and what to watch out for. I know my chances are much better because I read this book.

The first down-to-earth-no-secrets-held-back guide to the industry. And I've read them all. I do my homework. Lots of interviews with models in various stages of their careers who have the confidence to tell it like it is. Helped me to break into the business in New York, get a top agency and know what I am and am not capable of doing despite what anyone tells me. Gives you the power to make your own decisions and maintain sanity in a sometimes crazy business!
