Disappointing,
This review is from: Baby Faces (Board book)
I bought this book because I had read that babies like looking at pictures of other babies. Our version is a board book, with a child's face on each page and a single word.I don't like this book and won't buy any of the others in the series. For starters, the majority of the faces are negative, eg yuck, stinky. Those aren't faces I want to look at or encourage my baby to pull. I'm not a spoilsport, I fully support kids attraction to the gross, but these faces have no context. Stinky fart? Stinky blue cheese? Who knows? They aren't helping make sense of the world in any way. I also find half the "babies" are actually toddlers and the photos aren't great - lacking symmetry. All would be forgiven if my daughter showed any interest, but she doesn't. Looking a pictures of humans on the laptop is interesting, or at photos of herself, but the book gets the shortest of passing glances. She is much more interested in other books. All up - skip this one. Baby doesn't care and Mum doesn't enjoy reading it. If that changes as she grows up, I'll update, but it holds true for us from 1 to 5 months.

A Favourite!,

This review is from: Baby Faces (Board book)
Babies LOVE books that have pictures of other babies' faces. And in terms of baby face books, Margaret Miller's are the BEST. There are some other popular ones, but they often photoshop the babies so it looks like they're wearing make-up - weird. Miller's books always feature clear, close-up photographs of natural, cute babies. The perfect thing to engage your little one!"Baby Faces" features a close-up of a baby face and a word on each page describing their emotion. A full range is featured, from "boo hoo" to "Yipee!" The final page ("yipee") often makes my baby laugh. She loves to study all of the babies' expressions! My baby is 8 months old now, and she loves this. We've been reading Miller's books with her since she was about 3 months, and she's always found them very engaging. As a children's librarian and a mom, I highly recommend this!

My 9-month-old granddaughter loves this book and I love sharing it with her. She responds to the baby faces with shrieks of joy -- what more could I ask from a book?!

This Book Taught My Daughter her First Word!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Baby Faces (Board book)
This is a sweet simple book with adorable pictures. Very young children will love seeing other babies. My daughter spent lots of time with it, and one day, at about ten months old, we saw her flipping the pages and saying "uh oh" (which one of the babies says). Ever after she would say "uh oh" whenever she saw this book. I doubt educational value was Ms. Miller's top priority when she wrote the book, but it has some after all!

This is our son's favorite book. He's 8 months old andlaughs every time he sees the faces in the book. When we pick up the book he crawls right over to see it. We highly recomend this book as well as Margaret Miller's other books. They're a hit with our kids.

My 7 1/2 month old son just loves this book, and is always trying to touch the babies' faces. He also loves to play "peek-a-boo" with the book. Its short, sweet and simple. I highly recommend it as one of the first volumes in your child's library.

This book doesn't offer very many cute faces. The color rendering is intended to be bright and saturated but is instead dull and the hues are inaccurately rendered. I bought this book because my 7 month old son likes all baby pictures he sees in magazines, etc., but this book doesn't interest him. Blah! Stay away from this one.

Exciting Results,

I was amazed at how this book held my daughter's attention over any of her toys. She received this book at 8 months and by the time she was 11 months she had it memorized. All of Margaret Miller's books have made a tremendous impact on my daughter's speaking and reading ability. At 19 months, she is able to pick words out of books and is able to relay her feelings not only through facial expressions but also through words. If parents would take time to read these books to their children, and compare the faces and words in their every-day activity, they would be amazed at the way they begin to communicate.

My son and all of his friends love this book. He never tires of reading it or looking at the other baby faces! He has been reading it since he was 4 months and still enjoys it now at 1 year.
