5.0 out of 5 stars best weiner book
Good in Bed or Little earthquakes cannot even compare to In her shoes.

The others were boring and had no point, but in her shoes made you fall in love with every character and endearing portrayed sisterly love.

It was such a good read and I couldn't put it down.

IMHO... goes to In her Shoes. Of course opinions are just that, opinons, but for this reader (have read and enjoyed the classics- have read and enjoyed some chick lit)... this is my overall summary of this author, and her books thus far. I think that L.E and G.in.B were written in much more endearing and honest voices then In her Shoes. The sisters in this novel were...

This review is from: In Her Shoes: A Novel (Paperback)
'In Her Shoes' tells the story of two polar opposite sisters, Rose and Maggie. As much as the two despise each other, they can't seem to keep apart, because Maggie keeps finding herself is situations that require bailing out and Rose always comes to the rescue. After the death of their mother at a young age, Rose feels responsible for the younger Maggie and is always trying to parent her sister, despite Maggie's bad attitude and lack of effort to try and better herself. After Maggie sleeps with Rose's boyfriend, all bets are off and Rose cuts her sister off and vows to never help her again.
This novel is an accurate depiction of sibling relationships and another with a sibling can relate. Most people feel some degree of responsibility for their sibling and their success, however most of us know when it's out of our hands and up to them to reach success. The tale of Rose and Maggie made me appreciate the normal relationship my brother and I have and the fact that we are *hopefully* past the stage of bailing each other out of tricky situations.
I enjoyed the development of the character of Maggie and how she grew from shallow and vain to a character who was actually a person - someone who you could relate to and maybe even compare to someone you know. The development in this story was skillfully done and very enjoyable. I would (and have) reccommend this book to others.

I didn't think this book was ever going to end. It started off pretty good, but at many points the book left me uninterested and the story plot itself becaming dragging. It was really hard to get through it and when I finally did, I was very disappointed. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it didn't.

I think that L.E and G.in.B were written in much more endearing and honest voices then In her Shoes. The sisters in this novel were much flatter and harder to connect with. Grab the other 2 books, you will not be disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Left me disappointed..., July 18 2004

After reading "Good In Bed," I could NOT wait to get my hands on another book by Jennifer Weiner. Although I feel this novel was incomparable to her first (Good In Bed). At many points the book left me uninterested and the story plot itself becaming dragging. I stopped reading the book after I only had 112 pages left. I was extremely disappointed. Maybe if I read this book first and then Good In Bed, I may have had different views because I would not have had anything to compare it to. All in all I felt this book did not live up to my high expectations that I had for it.

This was a good book, really. I guess after Good In bed, I expected it to be earthshattering, I did give it 4 stars, and they were worth it. The story was good. It was a good read.

This review is from: In Her Shoes: A Novel (Paperback)
IN HER SHOES, Jennifer Weiner's second novel, is the story of two sisters who share absolutely nothing in common with each other except for parents (and an evil stepmother). One sister, Rose is a successful attorney at a high powered law firm, in a relationship with one of the partners in the firm. By all outward appearances she is perfect and happy. Then there is Maggie Mae, the younger sister of Rose, who has a body to kill for and a screwed up life. She wants be famous, but has done little more than have her hip appear behind Will Smith in a video. Maggie Mae has a knack for fashion, stealing and snooping into lives of others.

After moving in with Rose, Maggie seduces Rose's legal partner boyfriend and is, of course caught in the act by none other than Rose. Rose promptly throws both of them out of her life.

I won't give anymore of the plot away, but I will say that Maggie ends up vowing to make her life better and runs off to Princeton and then to Florida, where she finds her niche in life.

The book is quick to read and almost as witty as Good in Bed. The one major problem I found in this book is the author's attempt to tie up GOOD IN BED by adding (forcing) in Rose's meeting with Cannie from Good In Bed. In my opinion it was all very forced and distracting. Other than that an excellent book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful second novel by Weiner!, Jun 23 2004

This review is from: In Her Shoes: A Novel (Paperback)
After reading Good in Bed, Jennifer Weiner's debut novel, and loving it, I was unsure of whether In Her Shoes could be as good as Weiner's first. It definitely was! Weiner combined humor and heartache to make a really wonderful story of the love between sisters.

This book is about Rose and Maggie Feller - two sisters who have nothing in common except that they wear the same size shoes. Maggie is a twenty-eight year old who dreams that her beauty will lead to stardom, but usually ends up unemployed and in trouble. Rose is a thirty-year-old lawyer who loves romance novels and staying home, and is always there to clean up Maggie's messes.

The novel takes the sisters through a path to show that they are more alike than they imagined, and need each other more than they wish to admit. It is humorous, heartbreaking, and smart. I highly recommend!
