This review is from: John Brookes Garden Design (Hardcover)
A wonderful how-to book to understand garden design (as opposed to horticultural design.) It focusses on the spatial elements that make a good garden design rather than simply giving advice on plants (which it also does but to a lesser degree.) Brookes speaks the language of architects & landscape architects and as such provides a clear concepts and strategies to achieve your garden goals. It anchors these with before & after case studies that show the process of going from an existing landscape to a finished garden: from classical through modern, complete with sketches, photos and commentary/analysis.If the book has a weakness, it is the focus on very large gardens. But Brookes has remedied that with his 2006 book Small Garden. |
