I can't say enough good things about this book/cd set. There aren't enough words to explain how much I love this!!!! The music, lyrics, drawings, liner notes... everything is fantastic. It's silly and entertaining for children, but plenty of subtleties to entertain adults (And no, I'm not related to either Boynton or Ford). I also love most of their other work: Rhinocerous Tap and Blue Moo... but I wasn't too fond of Dog Train. I'm just happy I have a pre-schooler so I have an excuse to listen to this. I wish I could give it more than five stars.

WOW! - All of the other reviews are superb! I can't really add anthing more! We happened onto 'Philadelphia Chikens' at a Kohls. I love all of the songs. I try to explain to parents that THIS isn't "Kid Music". It is REAL MUSIC with lyrics "for kids" (and their parents). Daddy hasn't exactly taken a listen yet... but if our daughter has her way (smile) I am sure he'll be won over as well.

COWS - anybody ever seen a musical with a chorus line??? OH-MY - what fun! "turn of the head, and a swish of the tail and a tippity-tap of the toes..."

I just bought this for my 8 month old son. I am introducing new types of music to him, since he has mostly been listening to classical and lullabyes. This is great. Its clever and funny, and the songs are catchy and fun. My son always stops what he is doing to listen, even though he doesn't understand the words. The book is colourful, and has the songs written in poem form, as well as in musical form. This would make a great gift.

This is by far the best music CD for children that we have! We use CD's in the car frequently as we take long trips to vist relatives (7 hrs. plus). There are no boring lullabys here, or music that will zone you out while driving! It is such a fun CD - parents will find themselves singing along, and (I admit it) may even play it with no kids in the car!

What a wonderful gift we received for our one-year old ... "Philadelphia Chickens" is fantastic!

Presented as an "Imaginary Musical Revue," this book and accompanying CD are wonderfully written, illustrated and "directed" by Sandra Boynton. I assure you, I am going to look for everything else she has done.

Our son loves the high-energy songs, while my wife and I are halfway to learning all of the lyrics ... our favorites so far (yes, all of them, but standouts include) "Busybusybusy" by Kevin Kline; "Nobody Understands me" by the marvelous (and queckery bifflicious) Meryl Streep; and "Faraway Cookies" is adorably sweet ...

You can see kids really being able to relate to these songs. They are very well written, and the music, in most cases, is just as fun as the lyrics. In the short time that we have had this, it has won over the main spot on our playlists.

As the cover says, it's fun "for all ages (except 43)".

We were given this as a gift for my daughters (4, 2, 8 months). We listen to it at home and in the car, and at literally every song one or both of the older girls will say "this one is my favorite". So many kids albums seem almost like parent torture, especially in the car. This isn't one of them. The songs are fun for every family member and very singable.

This wonderful book/CD set combines the marvelous graphics and storytelling of Sandra Boyton with fun songs by performers as diverse as the Bacon Brothers and Meryl Streep. Boyton's witty style has no rival, and the wonderfully upbeat music makes this set something that the youngest of children and the oldest of parents can truly enjoy together.

I have a 5- and 3-year-old and have owned many children's CDs in my short life as a mom. This CD/Book combo, given to us as a gift by my mother-in-law, has been a huge hit in our household since Day 1. It captures the silliness and rhyming pace of Boynton's books, with a dazzle of celebrity cacophony that will keep you entertained every time you listen. To hear Kevin Kline, Kevin Bacon & the Bacon Brothers, Patti LuPone, Meryl Streep and others belt it out with the exceptionally well-trained voices of aardvarks and pigs and the like -- it's truly a hoot and holler (to add to the soundtrack, if I may).

Since we received it over the holidays, the kids have insisted we listen to it in the car, at home, and everywhere there is a place to play this CD. Usually I would cringe having to listen to a kids' CD over and over, but instead my husband and I have picked our favorites as have our kids, and we take turns playing the favs and then going back to the others when we need a break from fav overplay.

So far we haven't tired of it. It keeps you dancing and tapping your toes (as well as the occasional chuckle). Sandra Boynton and friends have created another masterpiece. Bravo and keep 'em coming!

This is the BEST! Funny at many levels; fun music, silly lyrics. And knowing that people like Kevin Kline and Meryl Streep are singing makes it even funnier. Buy it! Give it as a gift! Enjoy!

This is the best music CD for families I've ever found. The music is fun, mostly swing-influenced, and subtly funny. My 4-year-old son constantly requests to hear "Figadebby Chickens", even though he has to hear "Cows" first for his life to be complete. He sings along to every song, dances when we're at home, and generally loves it. My 1-year-old bounces up and down and cackles while he listens and watches his big brother.

I sing "Snuggle Puppy" to the baby as I put him to sleep. I tell every family I know about Philadelphia Chickens, just because I love it so much. It has actually spurred an interest in music in my older son. I can't give it higher praise than that.
