5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Collection of Animal Good Deeds

2.0 out of 5 stars Weak
I bought this book because I like the work of Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson. But the book is very disappointing. Some of the stories are so weak. An example would be about the dog who gives jelly babies to a person who suffers from diabetis, and collapses. The dogs gives the person 2 jelly babys, wakes the person and the 2 jelly babies give the person enough strenght to...

These stories are warm and inspiring. My 12 year old daughter has read it a few times now, cover to cover. Great for anyone to read who loves and appreciates animals. This book really grabbed me.

5.0 out of 5 stars changing pardigms, Mar 6 2001
This review is from: The Compassion of Animals: True Stories of Animal Courage and Kindness (Paperback)
I recently finished this remarkable book. I must say I listened to it (from a tape from the Blind Center) while working on a portrait of a dog for a friend. I have always believed in the compassion of animals, having several 'Animal Angels' in my own life. Kristin's stories of true compassion verify what every animal owner & lover knows in their own heart. One of the saddest comments, after asking prominent Scientists, were that animals performed the compassionate acts out of self interest. After all of the stories, as well as my own experiences, I can say thankfully ,that we are living in a time of changing thoughts. I am more than happy to recommend this book to all of my friends, and lovers of animals of all kinds.

I bought this book because I like the work of Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson. But the book is very disappointing. Some of the stories are so weak. An example would be about the dog who gives jelly babies to a person who suffers from diabetis, and collapses. The dogs gives the person 2 jelly babys, wakes the person and the 2 jelly babies give the person enough strenght to reach for a more substantial bar of sweets. My wife suffers from diabetis and we both had to shake our head of reading so much nonsense. Also the conclusions the authors draws from the stories are very questionable. Don't get me wrong, as I said before I love the work of Masson and I think that other species have as much feelings as human beings (just another animal, i.e. species) have. But this book was too much for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars And some people say animals aren't smart!?, Aug 6 1999
By
I loved this book, read it completely in one night after a marital spat. The stories touched and warmed my heart as I curled up on the sofa with my dog, and listened to my ferrets playing in their room. Just the stories comforted me, as my own dog did on that lonely night. I realized not only how lucky I was to have my pets, but how lucky they were to have me. This book will help anyone realize just how special their pets are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended the book to Humane Society for pet education, April 8 1998
I recommended this book to our local Humane Society for their pet education department. The department has an outreach program to travel to schools and teach kindness to animals. This book is the best for this kind of teaching. It's filled with one short story after another, just right to read to a class of children and hold their attention. Each story opens our hearts to animals!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful and moving stories, Feb 24 1998
By A Customer
This book awakens the reader to the inner life of God's creatures, their relationships with people, and left me with a much keener appreciation of their value in our lives. Good reading for all ages. I loved the book and my 9 year old daughter could not put it down.
