A Must Have For Any Photoshop User,
By fraser (London, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
Kudos! If you are even thinking of getting into digital photography or boosting your photoshop skills to the next level, this book is THE book to own. At a price you cant beat, and the skills from one of the best in the world (if not the best), The Art of Photographing Women will not let you down. Kevin brilliantly alows the user to down load the same images that are in the book, so you can follow each step word for word and image for image. I love this book!

This is an excellent book filled with beautiful imagery and relevent information. The examples are clear in purpose and delivery. I would whole heartedly recommend this textbook for those that wish to expand their basic knowledge and application of Photoshop skills. We are using Kevin's book as required reading in our Digital Photography program at The Creatvie Circus school in Atlanta. I look forward to the next installment of Kevin Ames' Photoshop working manuals, as they are very useful and user friendly. A++

Virtual Interactive Classroom in a Book,
By
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
This step-by-step photoshop guide delivers what it promises and is one of the easiest to follow technical books I have ever read. Kevin Ames shares his extensive knowledge and experience by successfully coordinating downloadable images from his website with the lessons in this book to create a truly interactive online classroom. I was particularly impressed with Mr. Ames' ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and with his immediate and personal responses to my email messages.

visually appealing, but not the best tips,

This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
One first sight, this book is extremely appealing to me. Superb formating of diagrams and text, fully colored and filled with beautiful pictures of women. I almost buy it after browsing it. BUT, if you read in detail and try to follow its tips, you'll find it go through many laborious steps to do simple things. There's a section on archiving that barely talks about how to archive efficently. THere is also a section detailing how you can retouch photo of a bikini clad girl to look like barbie doll. I find the final picture appauling. There are also sections on how to trim thighs, remove facial blemishes etc. However, there is another book I owned called "Photoshop Restoration and Retouching" - by Katrin Eismann, that does a better job on retouching. I strongly recommend this book if you're a serious photographer. There is a much wider range of tips and easy steps in this book.

A Must Have Book for the Digital Portrait Photographer,
By
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
The book we have all been waiting for! I just happened on "The Art of Photographing Women" in a bookstore. I usually just flip though a book, but this one stopped me dead in my tracks. This book is a must have. Usually we pick up a book to just get a couple of tips out of it, but this one is fully loaded. What you get is a series of lessons, with practical reasoning for the actions on everything you will set out to do. Download the high quality images form Kevin's website and away you go, step by step, learning the solutions to our everyday problems in digital imaging, learning the right way. By the way the images Ames gives us to work on are a great experience them selves, they'll teach you how see, and the models are very nice looking besides. Kevin is a great photographer besides a great teacher. I saw Kevin at the PPofA Digital Conference in Biloxi MS a couple of years ago, this is one man that not only knows his stuff but can convey his thoughts in print. I cannot say enough for this one... You've got to pick up a copy for yourself, you won't be able to put it down... this is the best book I have started in years!

If your serious about photography you need this book!,

If you are a photographer thinking about going pro. do yourself a favor and buy this book. The chapters on workflow are worth the price of the book alone. Let's face it, you can have the most expensive equipment in the world but unless you have a very meticulous workflow your just another amateur. This book will show you step by step how a professional does his workflow. Not only will you learn a great workflow but you will learn how to be more efficient using actions that he helps you create. Time is money after all, and if your anything like me you will find that this book paid for itself in the first 30 minutes of reading. If you own many of Scott Kelby's books as I do, your going to feel right at home with Kevin's book. It fills in the missing spaces that Scott's books leave out. This book "is" the missing link!

An Industry Standard,

This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
All the equipment and and all the software in the world will not make you a great photographer, but no one is capable of greatness without the craft, experience, and attentiveness to detail this book offers. I found Mr. Ames' instruction to be crucial for better understanding the means of creating superior images, and personally inspirational for the desire to do so.Women provide the object, but the end result is meant to be an enhanced understanding of your art and process, regardless of what is being shot. I completely disagree with the reviewer who claimed that 'real photograpers' would not completely remake an image: nonsense! That assertion is easily disproved by studying any reknowned artist in any medium -- it's the final result that matters. My feeling, after having read 'The Art of Photographing Women' is one of gratitude to Mr. Ames for sharing his extensive knowledge, and the only thing that prevents me from awarding him 5 stars is the hope that he'll be provoked into writing a sequel!

A Great, practical how to book!,
By Kevin Watson (Douglasville, GA United States) - See all my reviews

At last, a practical how to book that really explains and demonstrates a digital workflow! I just brought "The Art of Photographing Women, for Adobe CS" and am really getting a lot out of it. Easy to read, I love the section on "how to bullet proof your digital negatives". I have bought and read many different books, but this one helped to really make it happen. If you are new to digital photography or a seasoned user of Photoshop this book can help.

Who is this book really for??,
This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
This book would make you believe that you are going to photograph women, and they will throw Photoshop into the pot somehow. but its another rehash on how to use Photoshop to manipulate photos scanned into your computer. Im not sure who this book is for since most professional photographers don't have to do as much manipulation of their photos as presented in the book. Its not photography when you re-do the entire image from top to bottom! There are better books out there that accomplish the same thing, so I would have to say "pass" on this dog.

A Pleasure to Learn From,

This review is from: Adobe Photoshop cs: The Art of Photographing Women (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for Photoshop CS users. There is a great deal to be gained from it. As an explorer of Adobe Photoshop, I find the explanations and information to be clear and helpful. The design of the book is attractive. A great addition to your collection of books on Photoshop, even if you are not a professional. Could a later edition expand with the inclusion of a CD?
