An IT guy's perspective,

This review is from: The Art of Intrusion: The Real Stories Behind the Exploits of Hackers, Intruders and Deceivers (Paperback)
This book is an interesting read overall, but because parts of it are a bit technical, to say the least, it does not make for the smoothest reading, even for people in the IT field (who are not hackers). Thus, you might find some of the stories a bit boring. I feel the author could have done a better job at fleshing out the details of the technical attacks for the lay reader. For those about to ask, no, this book will not teach you how to hack a computer; at best, it will give you some ideas. Even so, as the author explains in the introduction, all the methods described in this book have either been patched or are widely publicized, so an attempt to utilize them would be unlikely to succeed today. I liked the previous book much more. It was much easier to follow and, unlike the methods in this book, social engineering attacks almost always succeed. |
