4.0 out of 5 stars "Conan" Rip-Off MUCH Better Than Most, Aug 7 2006

This review is from: Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer: Rise Of The Death Dealer (Paperback)
Jim Silke wrote four "Death Dealer" books (the first two comprise this book, with Frazetta illos), and they're lots of fun for sword-and-sorcery fans. His writing is fluid, and he does some real homage to Robert E. Howard and his greatest creation, Conan. Here our protagonist is Gath, a mean mutha who's been possessed by an evil helmet: he puts it on, and goes WILD! Much blood is spilt and much sweat is perspired, and Silke invents some fun nasties along the way for Gath to kill. There's a softer side to Gath... but thankfully we don't see much of it. He's mostly cleaving skulls and wrenching limbs from their sockets and having a good old time. Like Conan? You'll like Gath.

(These four paperbacks [Prisoner of the Horned Helmet; Lords of Destruction; Tooth & Claw; Plague of Knives] don't seem to be available on Amazon, but you can find them-- at inflated prices-- elsewhere.)
