4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book
First, let me say that I am an Eve player(an online multiplayer space game), so I can't speak for someone who isn't familiar with the Eve universe. My quick short review is that this is a very good book. Despite being a book about a video game, it is very well written, the story is complex and engaging. 3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Sci/Fi, but it won't win any awards
I read this book as an Eve-Online player. Having already played the game, it was very easy for me to dip into it and understand the politics of the the different factions at play. That being said, the book does a decent job of easing readers into the story with no knowledge of the Eve universe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Sci/Fi, but it won't win any awards, Jun 20 2011
This review is from: EVE: The Empyrean Age (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book as an Eve-Online player. Having already played the game, it was very easy for me to dip into it and understand the politics of the the different factions at play. That being said, the book does a decent job of easing readers into the story with no knowledge of the Eve universe.

I found the story to be engrossing, full of intrigue and satisfying overall. Particularly, the transformation of Tibus Heth from a lowly worker to the upper echelons of power was interesting and thought-provoking, since his ethics seem to change with the more power he wields.

That being said, the author seems to have a forced style to his writing. Some of the longer descriptions and conversations become convoluted, and it seems like the author tries to use more words to describe seemingly simple situations.

All in all, it was an enjoyable book which has some minor flaws. For what it's worth, reading the book made me want to sign up to the game again; I found that certain otherwise random NPCs (non player characters) now have a reason to be there, and indeed help move the story forward. Anyone who enjoys sci/fi will also enjoy this book.

My quick short review is that this is a very good book. Despite being a book about a video game, it is very well written, the story is complex and engaging. The story centres around the decent of four human space based empire decending into a widespread and ugly conflict. I found the book hard to put down and recommend it highly.
