5.0 out of 5 stars Brian Wilson and his story, Jun 8 2003

This video honestly demonstrates how Brian Wilson grew up in the face of abuse and faced many problems throughout his life as well as overcoming them. It also showed how much music has played a vital role in his life and documenting rarely seen homemade movies. Some interesting parts in the biography are the Landy therapy-driven phase of his life and solving some of the mystery of SMiLE. The film really gave detailed information about the life of Brian Wilson from his troubled past to the brighter days of today. Seek it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the video every Beach Boys fan needs., Oct 23 2002
This review is from: Brian Wilson (VHS Tape)
I would think by now, most big time Beach Boy fans have this. If your wondering and your not sure if you should get it, I'll just say this, I REALLY liked this. Beach Boys eye candy without a doubt.

Some home movie clips, and concert footage and TV appearances tells the story, to give you a visual view of their history.

I assume Brian did most of these home movies, he seemed to film
most of his teenage and 20s and 30s life. And I guess some of the others had a collection of old home movies, even Brians ex-girl friend is in the video on home movies, some rare, at least I think is rare, TV appearances from 1962-65.

This video is not negative, but it can get sort of depressing at times, of course the reason for that is Brians life was not always wonderful, but he did have an amazing and unique one of a kind life.

Done in the usual A&E Biography fashion. It starts with his parents history, and it covers up till 1998.
It was released a year later. Narrated by Beau Bridges.

This is every bit of 5 stars. And almost a book on video.
Its not as shocking and surprising as the book, "Heroes And Villains", this video is more wholesome, but doesnt
shy away from some of the negative of the BBs history.

All 100 minutes will keep you interested, Some B&W and Color clips. Most of the Brian Wilson interviews were done in 1994, with Carl and Al Jardine. Brian mentions how he was Jealous of the Beatles coming on the scene in 1964, Carl admits he was in awe of the Beatles, they cut the rest. It did seem like a race between the two super groups with both influencing each other,
especially from 1965-68. And of course the Rubber Soul=Pet Sounds=Sgt.Pepper, thats touched on a bit on here.

Interviews are from lots of people you would expect, like
band members, ex-wife, friends, studio musicians, family, many others.

Its unlikly BBs fans will dislike this video.
Young and older, This is for all Beach Boys fans.

Do yourself a favor, add it to your Beach Boys Library.
Also, get the book "Heroes and Villians" and buy some of the other BBs videos.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Biography!, Sep 18 2001

This is the best bio of Brian Wilson that I've seen yet. It's full of interesting stories and excellent footage. I've actually watched it a few times because it's that good. Highly recommended especially to musicians because you'll learn how Brian came up with the Beach Boys sound and how Paul McCartney's bass playing was influenced by Brian's. Now, if only Brian would get back with the Beach Boys!

This video is everything that Brian has been described as, funny, brilliant, wonderful, emotional. I had heard that this was a great vid on Wilson, and I have watched many in the Biography series, but this is for sure, a must own for any Brian Wilson fan. Some revelations, but mostly, a moving testimony to the power of humanity. I am not sure about the paranoid schizophrenic diagnosis (Landy?) and brain damage (drugs, hello Keith Richards) or about how they excuse Brian's bowing out of his role as producer/composer (he was only 25 !!!), but the home movies are hilarious (I knew he was a cut-up, but my gosh!!), the interviews with Marilyn (finally this decent, loving, and nurturing woman gets her due!) and others (Billy Corgan's contribution is one of the few cases of rock star/fan praising where the person had something legitimately insightful and valuable to say), and rare footage are eminently enjoyable. I watched, mesmerized for the length of the show, and I think you will too. Enjoy...

4.0 out of 5 stars "It's About Time!", Jan 20 2001

Finally... a biography of Brian Wilson with the quality and style of the "Biography" series. If anybody's story deserves this treatment, it's the leader of America's most infamous pop group. And what a story. This video delves deep into the personal life of Brian Wilson, and explores the events in his life that lead to his success, demise, and comeback. It's rich with rare photos and video clips that help illustrate this classic tale of the rise and fall of this amazing songwriter/singer/producer/performer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lonely Genius, April 11 2000
This review is from: Brian Wilson (VHS Tape)
What an interesting guy. It has been said, even by his daughter Carnie, that it is amazing that he is the sole living Wilson brother. He has had a history of mental, drug and weight problems and emerged virtually unscathed.

You just want to reach out and hug this big teddy bear of a man. This gentle biography is a fascinating look at a true American original.

This is one of the more comprehensive of the "Biography" series- and it is a real plus to have access to the man himself.

Brian is so raw and honest- what an impressive, wonderful man.

This documentary does him justice.

This is one biography you can't watch just once!
