5.0 out of 5 stars The best sex how-to book I've ever read.

And I've read more than a few of them. I've been in a couple of long-term relationships, and I really didn't think I had much to learn until I picked this up in the bookstore. One look at the instructions and drawings for "Ode to Bryan" (a technique for manual stimulation described in the book) and I was sold.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new
It's ok if you know nothing and are new to the game. I have been married for ten years and so that tells you that I know just as much as she does. I was looking for something to spice things up but it brought nothing new to the table. Good for novices.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best sex how-to book I've ever read., Oct 17 2001

This review is from: How to Be a Great Lover (Hardcover)

And I've read more than a few of them. I've been in a couple of long-term relationships, and I really didn't think I had much to learn until I picked this up in the bookstore. One look at the instructions and drawings for "Ode to Bryan" (a technique for manual stimulation described in the book) and I was sold.

Lou Paget has written a book that is refreshingly straightforward, respectful of monogamy and relationships, unabashedly sensual, and undeniably specific and USEFUL. At the same time, it's not gimmicky. The problem I have with most sex manuals is the space they waste on recipes for sexual side dishes, hors d'oeuvres you may serve up once in a while. Lou's book is pure entree--meat and potatoes that you, and your partner, will enjoy every night. In other words, most sex manuals are an issue of "Martha Stewart Living"; this is "The Joy of Cooking."

You may be doubtful about buying a book like this. Maybe, like me, you figure that if you are good enough at communicating with your partner, you don't need it. Well, I was wrong. The fact is that men are not necessarily good at explaining what they like--either because they are shy about it or because they have never experienced great loving. If you think about it, the reverse is also true. Haven't you ever had a lover who introduced you to something new--an incredible, wonderful surprise that you now can't live without?

Whether you are experienced or inexperienced, need help in the bedroom or think you know it all, this book is for you. It's like sitting down with your three best straight girlfriends and/or gay male friends and having a no-holds-barred information-sharing session about what makes men tick (and explode).

If you are open to making your sex life incredible, this will be the best $$$ you've ever spent. (Less than that, at a discount!) Take the plunge. The information you will gain is priceless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wanna spice up your love life?, Jun 28 2000
This review is from: How to Be a Great Lover (Hardcover)
If you want to fine-tune your sexual prowess between the sheets, or spice up your love life a little, then this book is for you.

Author Lou Paget doesn't hold back and gives some of the best tips'n'tricks on pleasing your man. I bought this book on a whim - I found that I'd already discovered some of the 'tricks' on my own - and was pleasantly suprised to find some oft-not-talked-about topics of foreplay.

This was an informative (and fun!) read... best read when the two of you are in bed and feeling adventurous and ready to explore. We laughed, and he moaned... and moaned. And begged for more.

If you think sex between husband and wife is boring, dull, unpleasurable then go get yourself a copy of this book. You won't after you've tried some of the tips in this tome.

Get the book, go play, and have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Explicit, detailed and valuable, Dec 25 2005

Paget’s "How to be a great lover" provides a lot of explicit and detailed instructions and descriptions. She discussed a broad spectrum of topics from sexually transmitted diseases to oral and manual stimulation. My husband and I are experienced and for us most of the information was not something new. We did learn new things however and it was a nice experience to read a book written by so genuinely interested and experienced in sex woman. We would like to recommended Alan Ritz’ Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex as well because it provides breakthrough information, which made a great difference for us in bed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Girlfriend to Girlfriend - Mindblowing Techniques, Jan 25 2007
This review is from: How to Be a Great Lover (Hardcover)
It is well written and the writer seems very sincere and friendly. However if you haven't been in a coma since the 1950's there is probably not much information that's new to you. Really, the mindblowing techniques are the average, first-year things you do anyway. Also, as you may remember from articles and books from the 1960's and 1970's, most of this book is devoted to your problems, your baggage, your own sexual repression. If you are buying a book by this title you are probably past those emotional issues. I guess that's my problem with the entire, (very tiny) book - the title is misleading. There is nothing "mind blowing" about these techniques. Very sweet, but not worth the time of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, Jun 14 2004

There are hundreds of books like this on the market, not to mention 50 new magazine articles each month on "the ONE sex secret he's dying to tell you" etc. etc. Like many single women, I am addicted to the Cosmo articles, but you do reach a point where you feel like you've heard it all before.
I bought this book for fun, expecting the same information but maybe with a slightly new twist. All I can say is WOW! Lou Paget presents fresh and original ideas to spice up your love life, and they really do work.
This isn't a book of sexual positions. If you are like me, however, you probably know enough positions to hold you over for a while. And I've learned that a position is not nearly as important as how it's done. This book mostly focuses on foreplay. There is a chapter on intercourse, but it's mostly stuff I already knew. The information gathered from the rest of the book is far more important. Sex is better when you have incredible foreplay to lead up to it.
Just one caveat: I never used to give my boyfriend hand jobs. I just didn't think I was very good at it. I mean, why do something that he can probably do better, right? Now that I've read this book and learned the techniques, my boyfriend actually asks for handjobs more often than sex. (if you start to have this problem, try the Italian Method, no man can turn down sex after that) ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Ode to Brain, Jan 15 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be a Great Lover (Hardcover)
I used to be very skeptical about this kind of books, as none of them taught me something new. I just felt like I had to read a challenging guide and that was exactly what I needed. Lou Paget is very good!

It is a must read, the kind of book that every woman should have under her pillow. It will give you so many ideas about how to be a great lover and how to satisfy your partner. So many techniques, that will spice up your life and will surely blow his mind. Everything works, especially Ode to Brain. You have to try this!

I only wish I had a video tape attached to this book. It would have been even better.

As far as books go, it was fine, though not life-changing. As a guy, I much prefer to WATCH sexual instruction on dvd or even on video...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bold, Frank, but easy to read, Oct 4 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: How to Be a Great Lover (Hardcover)
If you're looking for practical, easy to swallow, advice then you found the right book. Lou's tone in this book is straight forward and easy to read. Her advice and techniques are easy to understand and implement. I especially appreciate her use of non slang terms. It makes the whole book easier to stomach. The illustrations are simple with enough detail, but not offensive at all. I like her use of examples and comments from seminar attendees. Lou does a good job of making a touchy subject palatable. Highly recommend this book. My boyfriend seems pretty impressed.
