Spectacular, but be open-minded,
By
This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
I bought this book to try and open up some lines of communication with my long-term boyfriend who tends to freeze up when talking about serious matters or practices "selective hearing" when we talk about our problems. I thought that maybe if it was WRITTEN DOWN he couldn't misconstrue anything. Well, I was right. At the end of the first section of this book it asks both you and your partner if you are willing to accept what this book reveals. If either of you would answer no, don't go through with it. My boyfriend and I got through about nine pages before he said he had to take a break, and we hadn't even gotten to the really serious questions yet. I think that this book asks questions you wouldn't normally ask or have a hard time talking about. They are straight forward and while some of them are just fun, many are very serious and potentially hurtful answers could result from them. Just be prepared. I would definetly recommend it.

All About [Crud],
By T Bellamy (St. Louis, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
My fiance' and I bought this book hoping that it would have a positive influence on our lives...hoping it would open up discussions about our childhood and our personalities. It included too many negative questions that can lead to arguments and hurt feelings even in the most happy/healthy of relationships. This book advertises itself as some kind of relationship builder that is suppose to "deepen our love" but we found ourselves answering too many questions about our exes and each others' shortcomings. We see this book as a mood-killer/evening-spoiler and would not recommend it to anyone.

GREAT "US" DISCOVERY TOOL FOR OPEN MINDED COUPLES,
By
This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
My husband and I loved filling out this book... I noticed some reviewers were not happy with the book and I think the problem is the fact that troubled couples are expecting to be able to fix their relationship by filling out intimate questions... A BOOK WILL NOT FIX YOUR PROBLEMS, only truth and acceptance will set you free! That said, I think it was nice for me to get to know my husband better...I enjoyed reading answers that confirmed how much I know him and enjoyed even more to read new stuff about him... We are all evolving human beings, and certainly, we've both changed since we first met...so there is always something new to learn. We had some encounters when filling out "hard to face" questions, but came out cleaner and closer than ever. A MUST FOR EVERY COUPLE WILLING TO DIVE DEEPER INTO EACH OTHER'S MIND. It worked so well for us and had so much fun that MY HUSBAND ended up buying the ALL ABOUT ME books for us this Christmas, and we are loving it. GOOD LUCK and keep your mind open... !

Sub-par at best,

This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
I ordered several of this type of book at one time, and I'll be sending this one, and its companion "All About Me" back.First, the book does not lend itself physically to writing. It is a hard back, narrow-spined book, with semi-GLOSSY pages. Some pens would smear on such paper (I'm not trying, 'cause I'm sending it back), and the book won't stay open unless you REALLY bend it backwards on itself. Second, some of the questions are great and introspective and would stimulate fun conversation; however, there's hardly enough room for many answers. Although it's not likely one book is going to please everyone, some questions just seemed ... well, stupid. "Your partner is too hairy" check yes/no box. "James Bond movies are sexy" check box. etc. Finally, like another reviewer, I feel like I'm doing a lame on-line survey or magazine quiz when reading this book. Checking boxes, in my opinion, is appropriate in trivial topics. So either I wouldn't want them at all (because I don't need the trivial stuff), or they shouldn't be used for both trivial and serious topics in this book.

Only for the New, Dramatic or Clueless,
By
This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
I have been in a wonderful marriage for over 3 years now, and while I thought maybe this book would help us to dig deeper into our personalties and marriage. It did not. I got the feeling I was filling out one of those annoyingly cute online surveys. I had to answer many times N/A, no opinion, etc., because almost all of this book only applies to relationships that are dramatic, new, dysfunctional or completely clueless about their partner. Also there are questions that are not modern enough. Like growing up in a single parent home (I.E., only the mother/father around during your childhood) I did go through the book somewhat before I bought it and was please with the few pages I did look at. But, after filling out half of this book I am feeling like I wasted my money and time. Personally, I feel I could have done a better job. I am a novice writer, and I actually may publish a book along these lines. Hopefully, I won't leave my readers feeling empty wallet-wise, and longing for better content. Really you would be better off finding a free survey (most likely online) and filling that out instead of wasting your money.

All about us, and whatever happened before us...,
By
This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
My boyfriend and I are getting more serious and I bought this book because I thought it would be nice to look back on, and leave out on a coffee table. DO NOT leave this book out. Hide it. There is a section titled "before us", I suggest skipping it, who cares anyway? I really like going over this book, It really gets the two of us talking, and yelling, and getting over whatever we got upset about. The funniest question was "does your pet mean more to you than your partner sometimes". Buy this book if you are seriously in love, dont bother otherwise, it will fill you with reasons to break up.

This book saved my relationship...,

This review is from: All About Us (Hardcover)
I filled this book out when I was mad at my significant other. It forced me to compliment him as well as see his shortcomings, putting words to them as well as how I see myself. This book really saved our relationship, and opened up the lines of communication. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has a hard time talking to their partner (like me), because the book asks questions that prompt you.I hope most people who have this book view it the same... as something that DOES deepen the love between two people.

A great communication starter,

My boyfriend and I purchased this book on a whim over the holidays - we couldn't put it down. Once a couple agrees to be truthful in answering questions regardless of the issues presented, then the doors of communication swing wide open. I would highly recommend this book, especially for those who can stand to hear the raw truth from a partner and offer the same truthfulness in exchange.

It was a good way to spend time with one another. It was sometimes humorous, and other times sad, but I enjoyed every moment of it with my wife.
