5.0 out of 5 stars A Mover and a Shaker...Read it and You'll Be One Too
Finally, fitness advice that will get you off your couch and onto the track / bike / into the pool / or whatever else you do. I just bought the book about a week ago, returned home, and read it cover to cover in an hour. One hundred simple and truly life-altering strategies are contained within that have gotten even my lazy self up and moving. Over the past two days,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Feel good motivation
If you are looking for an easy read that can provide some feel good motivation in your busy life, this book hits the mark. The author adds plenty of color and a bit of philosophy to his fitness advice. As you read it, you can't help but feel like you have the author right there by your side. However, I wouldn't recommend it to people looking for more scientific...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Impressed...., July 13 2004
This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
Based on the reviews here, I decided to borrow this book from the library. I was looking for a fitness book that would provide me with information on getting in shape and improving my body. This book was not at all what I expected. The book contains 100 tips on how to motivate yourself about excercise, but doesn't contain any substantial information about how to excercise. You can definately find better information elswhere. I have found Ultimate Fit or Fat and Weight Training workouts that Work helpful. Goodluck!

P.S. Be suspect of the rave reviews posted here. When I re-read them they sound more like an advertisment than the experiences of regular people.

Over the past two days, following the book's advice on everything from nutrition, to technique and motivation, I've run ten miles (and feel great!), and I don't plan on stopping any time soon :). From his writing, the author is a truly fit individual, both mentally and physically, and his personal perspectives on the wonders of a clear mind and a healthy body are refreshing every time I open the conveniently-pocket-sized book. Humorous, compelling and without pretense, Harr's guide can pull out the passion and performance in anyone (and I mean anyone) and set them on the path to a healthier and happier self.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a size 12 to a 7 in 10 weeks!!!, Feb 13 2003

This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
This book demystifies many weight loss, nutrition and exercise issues in a clear, friendly, expert way. It helps to answer why we're getting fatter in America. I read this wonderful book in eight hours--but don't let that fool you; it's packed with good information and moving inspiration. Every word matters. When I started showing results, my friends and family wanted to know the secret. At least 3 of them bought the book for themselves. Eric Harr's advice and motivation really works. Big! How do I know? Because I'm significantly SMALLER! Yahoo!!! :)

I'm a college senior and my mom gave me this book for Christmas. At first, I was like "Hey, a fitness book. Gee thanks, MOM!" But I love this little book. It's helped me enjoy exercise more and get more out of life. It's inspired me. I am actually going to train for a 10k run in the New Year. This book makes a great gift. Thanks mom for getting it for me!!! ;) - Jess.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth Can Change Your Life. It Did Mine., Nov 29 2002
This review is from: The Portable Personal Trainer: 100 Ways to Energize Your Workouts and Bring Out the Athlete in You (Paperback)
This book tells the truths of health and fitness in a very articulate and motivating way. I lost 26 pounds and 3 dress sizes in a little over 9 weeks. The concepts that Eric Harr presents in this simple manual WORK. They work because they are logical, they are based in science and they relate to everyday life -- no matter what your age, fitness background or sports orientation. Read this fantastic book and the results will speak for themselves. It will change much more than your waistline too. You will feel like a healthier, happier, more "together" human being. That is what happened to me.

I learned a lot from this book, which covered mental, physical and spiritual fitness. Also inpired me to follow through on the advice. I wish it were longer.

A wonderful book...

i read a lot of fitness books and magazines and all the other reviewers are right, this book is killer. i ride category 3 on the road and the book helped me train better and i even got a copy for my mom who loves the book. it helps us both. the tips relate to each of us. the writer of this book must have spent a lot of time making the advice appeal to every kind of fitness person, because i'm really impressed at how personalized the book feels--and my mom agrees. everyone can benefit from reading this book, for the mind and the body.

i love the portable personal trainer. it hits home with 100 strategies and accompanying action-items. i'm very into fitness and read a lot, and this was my favorite book of 2001-2002. it's highly-motivating and packed with useful, no-nonsense advice. author writes clearly, knows his subject matter and has a good sense of humor (absolutely love the stories about his parents at his triathlon races!)

recommended without reservation.
