This review is from: The Afghan Campaign: A Novel (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book, about the life of a simple Macedonian soldier in a never ending campaign in Afghanistan. The focus of the author is not so much on war or on politics (although there are some scenes of action), but more on the clash of the Greek and Afghan cultures. A lot of details are provided on the day to day life of a soldier serving in Alexander's army. But where this book really shines in my opinion is when it relates the "liaison" between this soldier and an Afghan woman, through which you learn of lot about the Afghan culture and its people.
