I am of Estonian descent but have lived in Canada for over 50 years. I had a few of my mothers recipes but nothing that she ever wrote down. Over the years I've cooked some Estonian dishes for my family which have evolved into our own taste preferences. Often I would ask my Estonian relatives and friends on how to make other food items but with mixed results, as they too have had to tweak things over the decades.

When I realized that this God-sent book, (I just saw it in a store in Nov.2009, when a woman ahead of me in line purchased 3 copies & the storekeeper said she was all sold out#, was actually in Canadian measurements with ingredients that were available here, I had to have it.

My grown daughters have been asking about certain foods that I make, and now that I have this amazing cookbook with everything that pertains to our culture in there, I will serve items from there more often. I, too, brought several copies and will gift them to my two daughters and son's families for them to see where we came from and what our food traditions are.

The recipes are clear, concise and some, with a fantastic taste, are so easy to make #Hazelnut merangues)... my family raved over these and 36 of these disappeared in one evening. I would recommend this book to anyone with an Estonian background and even to others who are curious cooks and bakers, to revel in the fantastic tastes and aromas of the recipes in ESTONIAN TASTES AND TRADITIONS. Estonian food is indeed simple & real food... and isn't that what we're looking for these days? These recipes are so easy to follow and true to my mother and grandmother's Estonian kitchens of 40 years ago (before chemicals and unpronounceable ingredients destroyed real honest food). I'm thrilled to have finally found authentic recipes for the best breads in the world, peen and must leib. Aitah Karin!
