3.0 out of 5 stars Complete Evaluation on Crimson Kiss, May 11 2003

Personally, I think the diction and character development are perhaps the best parts in the book. The book itself is a real page-turner and truly draws my interest to read. Baker's plot is rather brilliant and creative. Through a flashback of recalling her past with Simon, Meghann portrays a vivid imagery of what Simon is like, physically and mentally. It really makes the readers feel like they were there to witness what had happened. But my favorite part was Alcuin's shocking revelation about Simon's history. It truly showed Baker's creativity with giving an explanation and perhaps a cause for Simon's true intention on Maggie.
Nevertheless, I personally find the book cover design to be a bit too tacky, which somehow overshadows the quality of the book. Also, even though Baker broke the rules about vampires being afraid of crucifixes and noneating nature, she fails to break the common conception about sex playing an essential part in vampirism. I regard some of the sex scenes to be unnecessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Story!!!, April 28 2003
This review is from: Crimson Kiss (Paperback)
My friend suggested I read this book after she received it as a gift. For a while I put it off because I thought that most books about vampires were full of gore and not very appealing. My friend kept assuring me that "Crimson Kiss" was not like that. She was definitely right! "Crimson Kiss" is an incredible book that will have you hooked from the time you read the first chapter.

The story revolves around Meghann O'Neil, a girl of only 18 growing up in the 1940's. One night she catches the eye of a dashing, handsome, and charming man by the name of Lord Simon Baldevar. The two embark on an extremely passionate affair that leaves Meghann breathless. She then finds out that Simon is a vampire, but still desires to be with him. When he transforms her into a vampire she finds that she has literally sold her soul to the devil. Simon turns from the loving passionate man she once knew into a controlling, manipulative man who forces her to call him Master and reads her thoughts to control her into submission.

Meghann's main goal is to free herself from the evil, murderous, and oppressive life she has made with Simon. Will she accomplish this goal? And if so, what sort of punishment lies before her when Simon finds her once again?

This is an excellent book for anyone, even if you don't like horror books. I was extremely intrigued by the characters and felt as though I knew them. I cheered when they triumphed and mourned when they lost.

I would highly suggest this book! You will not be disappointed!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great beginning, Feb 14 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Crimson Kiss (Paperback)
I'm not a fan of horror, but this is more like chick lit than the traditional horror pieces. I loved Ms. Baker's strongly drawn characters, though I found her constant POV shifts from person to person distracting. She writes an enchanting blend of terror and eroticism.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Crimson Kiss (Paperback)
i only gave this book 4 stars instead of 5, but i wouldn't want you to think i'm not getting the rest of the series. i've read several 'he turned me into a vampire and i tried to kill him to get away' books recently so i can't make the plot out to be entirely original. on the other hand, its a classic plot, rather like finding the magic sword is for scifi, and trisha baker certainly did a great job with it. the unique twist on the plot is the love-abuse side to their relationship making it also a good book on showing the underpinnings of abusive relationships and how they can develop slowly until the woman (usually) cant see later how she ended up a prisoner and a victim in it. unlike other vampire books where the love-abuse angle is hinted at, this book has many realistic details and real insight into the situation. 'but he loves me in some way' being as true as 'and death is too good for him' can be a difficult concept for those of us raised to be victims of love. 'that he loves me in some way' and 2.50 will get you a cup of coffee anywhere. this would be a good book to read for anyone that has been in an abusive releationship as a child or adult.

This book kept me on "the edge of my seat", so to speak, until the end. I've read it twice and an now starting it a third time. Simon is a bit of a butthead, but he is my absolute favorite character in this book. Simon transformed Megann out of ove, but took it WAY too far, but that is what keeps you on the edge of your seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD idea if I do say so myself, Aug 23 2002
This review is from: Crimson Kiss (Paperback)
Yes I know I posted a review before about this book but I have thought long and hard about this. I think that like Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire, this book, along with the others in the trilogy, would make wonderful movies. I would love to see who would be chosen to play Maggie,Simon,Jimmy,etc... in the movies. Now Trisha if you read these book reviews please take this one into consideration. Well I just thought I throw the idea out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT book, Aug 18 2002
This review is from: Crimson Kiss (Paperback)
I would just like to say that from the first momment I picked up this book I could hardly put it down. I love vampire movies, and books. This is one of the best I have read. I love the way it ended because an ending like that can only make you want to find the next book and find out what happens next. And I love the way it does flashbacks in it. I think that's one of the most unique things that can be used rather it be in theatre, movies, tv, or books. And I liked how she gave the date of the flashback, unlike some people who don't use the date and it confuses people. Well I can not wait to get "Crimson Night". As soon as I finished this book I was like I have go to get the next one. I have to say that Trisha Baker is now one of my favorite authors and I hope she writes more books like this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A World You Never New Existed, July 17 2002
By
Nicholas L Smith (Birmingham, AL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Crimson Kiss (Paperback)
I had the pleasure of running into Trisha Baker while on vacation in New Orleans. After talking with her for a while she told me that she had two published books. I had never read a vampire novel before but I decided why not...if the book was half as fascinating as she was it would be one of the best books I had ever read. Boy was I surprised. From the moment I opened the book I was taken into a world I never new existed (but that's the point of a book, is it not?). There was so much life (and death) in the book. Trisha takes you deep into the mind of an innocent girl (Meghann "Maggie" O'Neil) and keeps you there as Maggie is turned into a vampire and struggles for her freedom against one of the most powerful vampires in the world. It's enough to make you forget that didn't really happen.
