Great Value on the Kindle, Jan 22 2011
This review is from: Apocalypse Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
I have not read Dead City but did read Quarantined whose interesting premise was not fully realized. In Apocalypse of the Dead, the author delivers an enjoyable traditional zombie tale. Picking up after Dead City (apparently one does not have to read them in sequence), the virus breaks quarantine and spreads with devastating speed across the US and the world.
The story follows a few different surviving groups as they make their way north. Along the way, horrors of the dead and poor-behaving humans make the journey a cruel and costly odyssey. I am fascinated by post-apocalyptic landscapes but unfortunately McKinney does not adequately convey how this world must look. Instead he focuses more on character development as his writing improves and he deserves credit for it. It is a solid contribution to the standard genre and great value if the Kindle version is purchased. Thanks Joe - keep them coming.

I liked it, Nov 23 2010
This review is from: Apocalypse Of The Dead (Mass Market Paperback)
The second book in a series, I though this book was well written even thought it was hard to follow at times with so many stories on the go within.
McKinney knows his stuff. The one thing that irked me was the zombies(infected). I didn't feel that it made sense that they were actually alive and afflicted with a disease when it was indicated that some of them had stomachs torn out etc... This didn't make much sense to me.
