The authors in your home!,
By Chris Rehers (Big Bear City, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Paperback)
Have you ever wanted to get into the author's head just a little bit further? Or to rent them for a few hours and ask them questions? Well here you go...your wish had been granted...well sort of...well its the next best thing! The Annotated Chronicles is chalk full of further detail of everything from plots, history, the why's and where's, who did whats, etc. In this wide margin addition of the Chronicle Margaret Weis (Author)and Tracy Hickman (Author) have invited us to the realms of their creation with lots of notes added in the margins. So whether you are a seasoned vetrean or a first timmer I highly recommend The Annotated Chronicles version of the Dragonlance Chronicles! Buy it today from Amazon.com

I first read this series when I was in grade 6, and have recently re-read it again. The story is first rate and it good for all ages. A must read for any fantasy lovers.

A bit distracting,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Paperback)
The chronicles is the second series I have ever read by Weis and Hickman, and I love the story very much. The characterizations were very vivid and real, and the plot itself is quite imaginative too, considering that it was one of the *older* fantasies. I know people pay for this annotated chronicles because they want to know what the authors have to say about their creation, however, I find the notes on the side very distracting, especially for one who had never read the series before. The notes on the margin basically gave out the plot, and some notes were rather obvious and redundant!! The next time if I have a choice, I would rather go for an unannotated series so that I would not be sidetracked from the story.

In this book, not only do you get the three Dragonlance Chronicle book, but you also get a bunch of notes, explanations, and commentary from the authors.Dragons of Autumn Twilight Dragons of Winter Night Dragons of Spring Dawning All wonderfully created stories full of characters light and dark, funny and solemn, and enchanting places you can just imagine. I suggest you read this book - it's worth it.

Saves shelf space, looks great,
This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Hardcover)
If you have the first three in natty old paperback, trade them in for this. This book is for real fans and people that are new to the series. The gorgeous colour plates make this book worth every cent you pay. This is a compilation of the first three books (Known as the Chronicles), so you get three books for the cost of one. The book is about 2 and a half inches thick, but it's still smaller than having each book of the Chronicles. It makes it a lot easier to take it with you on vacation.

Annotated or not....,
By JJAM "jjam1303" (Charlotte, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Paperback)
After reading a lot of reviews about how bad the annotated chronicles were compared to the original, I think a lot people forget the main point behind it. This book was put together for those who, in my opinion, should have already read the books, and wanted to know little tid bits about certain things. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but try to keep in mind the POINT behind this edition. If you don't want to know that this and that is going to cause something in the book (even though you already know) or I already knew that. Then fine don't read it, but if you still want to know things and understand a little more, then read it. Don't bash the book just because it's not your reading standard.

Great book; terrible annotations,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Paperback)
If you have not read these books and are the type of person to jump right to the last page, then this is the book for you. Tracy and Margaret have a terrific knack of hinting towards the next 100-150 pages with their little side blurbs. I cannot begin to tell you how many annotations begin with, "as we discover later..." It's like a cruel joke.I am on page 500 of this 1300 page book. At about page 300 I resolved to stop reading the sidebars. Unfortunately, when they place an asterick within the text and place a little one or two sentence blurb right beside it, before you know it you have already read it. Tracy and Margaret do a wonderful job of systematically destroying any suspense left in the book. If they would join my poker table, I could quit my day job. Read the books, they are quite good. Get versions without the annotations, they are quite bad.

Great for Newcomers to Fantasy,
By ForsakenOne (NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Hardcover)
I read this series when I was in 5th grade. It is a great introduction to fledgling fantasy readers. The story is a memorable one with pretty basic ideas. While the story can be predictable it leads to bigger and better things. If it weren't for this series I would never have read Wheel of Time, Song of Ice and Fire or Sword of Truth...Dragonlance will keep a kids attention...

An Excellent Addition to anyones Library,

This review is from: The Annotated Chronicles (Hardcover)
This was an excellent book. It's really great to see what the authors think of certain events, and it's better to have it in this more "compact" volume. I also learned things like where certain scenes were inspired from, and the fact that Tracy Hickman is a man! You understand, right, Tracy can be a girls name too!?! I highly recommend this for weeks of enjoyment. Happy reading!
