Keith Baker, creator of the Eberron world, is a mediocre writer. The story itself is a typical arc, with a couple of somewhat predictable twists, but my criticism lies more with the characters, who are boring and flat.

At no time in the novel did I empathize with the protagonist(s), or feel able to relate to them in any way. I thought their actions in the story to be contradictory at times, and outright silly (badly so) at others. Their actions, and reactions were bland, and forced.

This book is a good way to familiarize yourself with the Eberron world, as it is a fascinating place created by the author himself (kudos there!)... but, unfortunately, its not good for much more than that.
