3.0 out of 5 stars a few pearls of wisdom, nothing spectacular
I hate to be negative but this book is mostly about common sense, not spying. This book would be suitable for young children, or anyone who is socially awkward and does not really know how to successfully interact with others. It teaches basic social skills, the kind of thing in "How to win friends and influence people." Great read if you don't know these points already,...

I hate to be negative but this book is mostly about common sense, not spying. This book would be suitable for young children, or anyone who is socially awkward and does not really know how to successfully interact with others. It teaches basic social skills, the kind of thing in "How to win friends and influence people." Great read if you don't know these points already, or if you know someone who needs work on their social skills, give them this book. It will not look like you are giving them a self help book, but you are. There are a few pearls of wisdom, like how to use memory tricks to improve your recall; good advice especially if you have trouble remembering names. Other than that, this book does not go into enough specific details to point out anything beyond general knowledge or common sense. A great reminder was to email a scan of your passport to yourself when traveling - a great reminder but not worth buying + reading the book for that!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But not enough, July 9 2004

This review is from: International Spy Museum's Handbook of Practical Spying (Paperback)
As I am not a real spy, I don't know what a spy actually is. I don't know is it that spy is behave in a way that this book describes. However, this book do give great tips of how to become a more "street smart" guy. It gives you tips of improving your memory, how to observe a person, how to obtain information wisely........... Those tips towards normal persons do work!!! The only thing that this book miss a star from my rate is that although alot of tips is given, but it haven't deeply describe those tips. Somehow it is a good catalogue for you to know what skills you are required to be a "street smart" guy and then you can obtain other books for developing those skills throughfully.
I really hope that a real spy or someone with such kind of background, even just academically to comment on this book and tell me are those describled in this book are pratical for real spies. Thx
