The fist time i watched this film i vowed i was going to change my name by depol to Veda Sultanfuss, get a bike with streamers, a boy as a best mate an make sure he didn't go near bee's. this film tackles a lot of really good issues from a childs perspective. Veda has the trauma of believing she is responsible for her mothers death to deal with, along with the fact her father (harry) pays more attention to his new girlfriend than her and then to top it all of her best mate pops his cloggs! i cry ever time i watch it even thogh i know every line, pause and song.
its funny, touching and a good sunday afternoon family film.
if i hadn't of grown up with this film i hate to think what kind of person i'd have turned out to be =D...x

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, moving comedy, Jan 28 2004

This review is from: My Girl (VHS Tape)
"My Girl" is a touching, emotional film about a young girl's journey from the carefree childhood she's always known to the confusing-and often alarming-adolescent world. This young girl is Vada Sultenfuss (expertly played by Anna Chlumsky), a precocious, mature 11-year-old who's a little mixed up about life and death. Her best-and only-friend is Thomas Jay Sennet (Macaulay Culkin), a quiet, somewhat awkward boy who's allergic to just about everything you can think of and idolizes Vada. Dan Aykroyd is her widowed father, Harry, who owns a funeral parlor and is somewhat distant from his only daughter. Jamie Lee Curtis is the cosmetician Harry employs (and ends up marrying, but that's a diffent story.)
Vada tends to be a little controlling towards Thomas Jay (e.g. shoving him onto the porch when he comes over and she doesn't want visitors), but it becomes obvious how much he meant to her after he goes out in the woods to find Vada's lost mood ring and is fatally stung by bees. Thomas Jay's death was obviously a tragic event, but it helped Vada learn some valuable lessons about life, become closer to her father and stepmother, and even make a new friend-although you know she'll never forget Thomas Jay.
This is a sad movie, yes, but it's also funny. My personal favorite part:
Vada: "Say something, it's too quiet."
Thomas Jay: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America..."
Take my advice and watch this movie. Anna Chlumsky is simply amazing. She lights up the screen with her personality. When she laughs, you laugh with her, and when she learns of Thomas Jay's death, you can feel her pain. You may even learn some of the same life lessons she learned.

This movie deserves 5 stars because of the amazing acting abilities of the actors and the storyline was fantastic. This is one of the best movies ever made!

This movie is an emotional rollercoaster. I got so involved with the characters more and more each time I watched this film.
This movie is absoluteley amazing in every way a film should be!
A coming of age drama filled with emotions and never once will it loose your attention.

Bittersweet in so many ways, it is a classic!
If you have not seen this then I reccommend seeing it very soon!
Even after all the years it has been out I am still intrigued by its beautiful story.
I get so involved with the characters that my emotions are feeling so much with the characters.
