I LOVE this movie. A definite must-see. I watched this movie for the first time with an ex-boyfriend and I just loved the feeling it gave me. We were watching this movie about the meaning of love and happiness and why Earth should continue to exist...which is for love. It was recently on TV (3 years after I saw it with my boyfriend) and I was so excited that it was on I couldn't do anything else. This movie just always makes me feel so good about life and love...and myself. Definitely a movie that I could watch 100 times in a row and still want to watch again.

A big futuristic Fashion Show,

I wish the DVD had some extras as well. I have seen on HBO a behind-the-scenes sepecial on this movie, and it would be a great addition to the DVD. A lot of emphasis was put into the design of the set and the costumes which were the creations of Jean Paul gautier. His wild creaions truly set the stage for the type of look that was put in this film. It's like one big fashion show. I haven't seen the DVD in a long time, but the colors are vivid and the sound quality surprisingly good. It was probably one of the first movies to encounter dolby digital. The plot is a bit cooky, but a great collage of all of Luc Besson's favorite sci-fi movies. He definitely has good taste albeit an exotic one. It's kind of nice to see something a little different than the usual sci-fi fare: same types of costumes, same type of weapons, same type of creatures. This is one is stylish, action packed and completely funny, a hard combination to weave together and keep tight. Extremely entertaining in all aspects.

To tell the truth, I didn't think much of this movie the first time I saw it. I saw it again about six months later and liked it a little better. In fact, I like this movie more and more every time I see it. It is silly and has great lines. Also starring Gary Oldman who makes a great villain. It is hard to believe that he is the same actor that plays the villain in "The Professional." If you did not like this movie the first time, give it another try.

Apipoulai! This movie was great - one of my top five fave's! It's just goofy and far-fetched enough to be addictive, it's got GREAT actors, an interesting plot, and a fantastic soundtrack. I've probably seen the film about 100 times, and it never gets dull. And enjoy the film!

This is pretty much my favourite movie from back in the day. It has everything I look for in a movie, action, romance and it's sci-fi. Chris Tucker is hilarious and I never get tired of watching this movie! Everyone should at least see it.

Mixed reviews on here, so rent the movie, watch it. If you love it buy it if you hate it, then dont. One shouldn't depend on people they dont know to recommend things anyway.I however absolutely love this movie. It's Sci-fi comedy and should be thought of as such. People that expect Bruce Willis to act like he does in Unbreakable or the Die Hard movies are expecting too much from this film. I thought all the characters were great, the acting perhaps wasn't perfect but I hardly noticed because this movie is so packed with great scenes. The scenery and effects were great for the year this was made and add to the feel of this sci-fi comedy. Ruby Rod is annoying and amusing, honestly I have ALWAYS found Chris Rock annoying and hardly ever amusing so for me this was a great role for him. Milla may not be the perfect woman in everyone's eyes, the point is she is a perfect being not a perfect specimen of a "hot woman" Also people say she should not be humanoid, well she was created as a weapon to save earth, so why not make her humanoid so the people of earth could relate. Plus the ending shows she needed to know love to work, more likely to get love from a human if she looked human I would think. I have to say I really liked the part when she found out what the word War meant, very touching moment that makes one think "Why would someone want to save earth after all we've done to destroy it?" and makes the ending so much more meaningful. Zorg is just ridiculous as a bad guy, always full of fail. This too amuses me, to have a rather soft bad guy is rather fun once in a while. I also LOVE the fact that our Hero Korban Dallas and our bad guy Zorg NEVER meet. That to me is a GREAT change from movies where they always seem to have the bad and good guys meet up and clash, or talk about their motives, etc. In a good movie you should be able to see their motives, not have to wait to have them explained. This is one of my favorites that I plan on buying the DVD to replace my VHS copy. I throw it on when sick, or tired or on a rainy day..I curl up in bed and just enjoy it all. So in my opinion well worth buying but as I said don't be a sheep, rent it and decide for yourself if you'll buy or not.

Where did he learn to negotiate like that?,

First time I watched this it was one of those three star things that you could take or leave. Yes it had all the elements (except the fifth) that make for a good shoot-um-up space thing. But I just looked at it as an action movie. For some reason this movie can grow on you and you find yourself anticipating the next move. Then you see things that you did not see the first time. Then you start to mouth the words. Soon this turns into a five star movie with a plot, good guys, bad guys, and good bad guys. Soon you start looking in your auto-wash to see if you left anything in there. An ancient thereat of dome looms over the earth. An ancient religion keeps the secret of the doom and the secret of the defense (the fifth element.) Prophecy turns into reality and it is up to Major Koeben Dallas (Bruce Willis) to find the fifth element and save the earth. Will he be able to do this and at what emotional expense? What is the fifth element?

Bruce Willis stars as Korben Dallas, a retired army major now working as a taxi driver. One day a beautiful young woman drops (literally) into the back of his cab and there starts the adventure. Milla Jovovitch is Leeloo, the girl who `dropped in' on him and who is on the run from the authorities. Her destiny is to save the world from an ancient evil that has reared its head and she needs the help of a reluctant Korben. Also appearing are Gary Oldman as crooked, evil boss Zorg, Ian Holm as Cornelius,a priest and Chris Tucker, the latter providing comic relief as larger-than-life Ruby Rhod, a manic and neurotic D.J. who ends up accompanying the heroes on their quest. Luc Besson has created a visually stunning piece of work. The cinematography is vibrant and colourful and the costumes (designed by Jean Paul Gaultier) have to be seen to be believed; the special effects are of the quality you would expect and add to the whole experience. This is a fast paced movie that grabs you and doesn't let go from start to finish, a real roller coaster ride of a movie that is well worth seeing. Turn up the volume and enjoy the ride. |
