5.0 out of 5 stars SO Smart!, Dec 28 2009

This review is from: Making Children Mind without Losing Yours (Paperback)
I was exceptionally impressed with this book. It's realistic parenting strategies that actually work. Withing two days I can see changes in my 4 year old, and myself. Why as parents do we FIGHT for every inch with our kids? Why has no one before shown us realistic way to parent? I think so many of fall into little parenting ruts and habits and it's hard to get out of. Kevin Leman makes it very easy to see those ruts, and gives amazing advise (that WORKS) on how to get out of them, and how to get your childern to mind you. I've already passed this book along to family members (and have friends waiting their turn).
Im also reading his New Kid by Friday which is great too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, Sep 12 2001

I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of practical examples to use besides just talking about how to handle certain situations in theory only. Of course most of the things he suggests really are common sense. Unfortunately most people get so wrapped up with trying to keep their kids happy that they forget common sense sometimes or prefer to take the easy way out and let their kids get away with murder. I highly recommend this book for the christian family looking for smart ways to help guide them in parenting their children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ever, Jun 6 2001

I've read a LOT of parenting books. This is the best one I've read by far. His methods teach a balance of respect and discipline that make so much sense! And it works! I have been trying to move away from so many punitive measures in disciplining my kids, but I could never buy into the completely positive discipline style of discipline. This book (and video series) was a true answer to prayer for me and my husband. It teaches a balance of punishment and discipline with self control and respect. We have been trying to apply this philosophy in our family, and this book gives great practical examples. I have seen a real difference in my kids and have felt it in myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Line, Feb 14 2001
By A Customer
First bought this book 13 years ago. Good to see it's still going strong! The advice in here is Christian based, but he doesn't beat you over the head with that fact. I too loaned it to a friend, who loaned it to her friend and I never saw it again. I think every parent should have a copy for themselves. I still refer it, and my children are now 17, 14 and 13.

4.0 out of 5 stars great advice, Nov 1 2000

The Reality Discipline described in this book is just common sense distilled into a well-thought out set of guidelines. I like that Leman writes in a manner that is respectful of parents, rather than preaching, and flexible-you won't find any "do exactly as I say to the letter or your child will be a brat," which all too many parenting experts do. Reading this book really helped me think through why I do what I do and how I can alter my actions to better fit with my philosophy. I highly reccomend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours, April 9 2000

(REAL NAME)
Dr. Leman gives parents practical and inspirational advice in "Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours". His views on "reality discipline" fall right in line with the way my husband and I have been trying to raise our four girls. It was wonderful to have support for the way we "discipline" vs. "punish" our kids. He also gives practical advise with examples on how to handle situations that arise in all families. From temper tantrums to tattling, hope and help is here!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!! A MUST for all parents, Aug 11 1999
By A Customer
Dr Leman is right on target. It is easy reading, but not at all a light topic. All parents should read this book. I find myself wanting to give it to parents I see in the store and on the street. I tell all my friends about it and about Dr Leman. Overall, it is an excellent Christine based guide for parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must for every parent!, Feb 5 1999
By A Customer
I bought this book for the first time about 6 years ago when my son was 3 and we had just had our 2nd child. I read it, loaned it out to a friend, and never saw it again. I've since bought 8 copies, all of which I have read and then given away. I now have 3 children, ages 3,6 and 9 and am getting ready to order another copy. I love this book! Every one needs help now and then and I am so thankful that there are good christian people willing to share their mistakes and victories with the rest of us so we in turn can make better judgments ourselves!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very valuable child rearing information, Oct 3 1998
By A Customer
This book provides a no-nonsense approach to disciplining children while fostering the true meaning of unconditional love. These techniques are really based on common sense (the golden rule for example) and are very effective. Everyone raves at how well adjusted our 2 year old is. We started applying the basic principles in this book when she was about 1 years old. Her teachers at preschool just love to have her in their class because she is "so well behaved", full of joy and caring and empathetic towards others. I have never heard anyone say that about a 2 year old before.
