ESSENTIAL FOR PARENTS DEALING WITH MULTIPLE FOOD ALLERGIES!!,
By Lia (Corvallis, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Parent's Guide to Food Allergies: Clear and Complete Advice from the Experts on Raising Your Food-Allergic Child (Paperback)
I have read many things about food allergies and this book is by far the most complete reference I have found on the subject. My allergist said the forward is written by one of the foremost authorities in allergies and he wouldn't endorse anything that wasn't excellent. This book goes beyond diagnosing and handling food allergies by also discussing other problems frequently encountered by food allergic children, such as eczema, dust mite allergies, and environmental allergies. It is extremely well-written and easy to read. It is especially helpful for parents, like me, dealing with children who have multiple food allergies. If your child has food allergies, you should buy this book.

I have read several books, and this one is the best. The book contains useful information for explaining the different types of food allergies, and chances for outgrowing these allergies. It also offers sympathy for parents of kids with food allergies and let's you know you are not alone in your fears and struggles. Most importantly, the book has GREAT recipes that are easy to make that the whole family will enjoy. I regulary make the zucchini and banana breads for my dairy and egg allergic son to take to school for snacks. Terrific book!!

I purchased this book, so I could get a better understanding of my son's tree nut and shellfish allergies. This book was so informative, from understanding what an allergy is, to how to handle an allergic reaction.I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves someone with a food allergy. Where I started out feeling helpless and scared, I put the book down, feeling empowered. By feeling confident and educated, I feel my son will be safer.

What A Lifesaver!,

I can not say enough good things about this book! Being a parent of two food allergic children, I really needed education and guidance in handling their allergies. I realized after dealing with several doctors that diagnosis is their job but educating and informing parents is not a priority. Parents of food allergic children need to educate themselves! Once you know what you are talking about and dealing with, you can help the doctors, teachers, and caregivers who care for your children. This book also does an excellent job dealing with the emotional aspects that allergic families deal with. I have purchased and recommended this book for friends and schools. I am very appreciative to Marianne Barber and company for writing this book.

This review is from: The Parent's Guide to Food Allergies: Clear and Complete Advice from the Experts on Raising Your Food-Allergic Child (Paperback)
I can't recommend this book enough. After your doctor so casually recommends eliminating multiple foods from your childs diet- it soaks in. The news is lifestyle altering. This book, co-written by a practicle mom, and MD, is wonderfully written and well organized. It is a must. It is a guide on how to live with allergies. It includes information from allergy testing, hidden ingredients, types of allergic responses, preventing allergies in your next child, and recipes. It was the first book a purchased on the subject, and I refer to it often.

I can not say enough about this wonderful book. When my child was first diagnosed with food allergies I was extremly stressed out. I came on-line and read as much as I could and purchased several books to learn how to cope. This book offers real life solutions for parents who can not stop their entire lives. The author makes suggestions on how to survive day to day as well as on vacations and at birthday parties. She offers several recipes for kid food and everything I have tried has been great. This is the best, most comprehensive book on the subject.

Until I started reading this book I had no idea how much I did not know about my son's food allergies. Recently we had an anaphylactic emergency which prompted me to get this book. I did have an Epipen but was unaware when I should give it. I had no idea that Epipens wear off after 15 minutes and may need to be given again. This book explains all of that. It is truly a great book that allergist should hand out to all of their allergic patients. If you have an allergic child I definitely recommend this book. dalebecky1@hotmail.com

If you have a child with severe food allergies, this book is like a bible. I just finished reading it and found it to be very educational. I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking not only information about how to diagnose, treat and manage a food allergy, but to anyone who feels overwhelmed and discouraged by their child's allergies and medical conditions that result. I cried many times while reading this book because I felt like someone finally understands the range of emotions a parent goes through when dealing with their child's severe food allergies.
