Hits the spot -- A fun and goofy Amazon pick!,
By Jay McClure (Smithville) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (Paperback)
Yeah this book is like snack food, it's true. But since I needed a few laughs I thought I might check it out. Damn, if it isn't funny. Basically, it's a series of true life reckless anecdotes. The bluntness and lack of pretention makes them appealing somehow -- like gossip from the screw-up friend: 'You'll never believe what happened to me last night!...' This is the perfect book to read in the can, straight up. Add it to your shopping cart ('cause remember there's free shipping)! Also recommended: THE LOSER'S CLUB by Richard Perez, RUNNING WITH SCISSORS by Burroughs

Hide your Daughters, Max is here,
This review is from: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (Paperback)
Reckless, silly, and borderline preposterous can only describe Max and his tales. His life is like the horrid curiosity we feel looking at the bodies after a bad accident. Shocking, revolting, but you can't turn away. I was never good as a binge-drinker, and having read the stories, the dude doesn't have much competition. But I'm glad to have this book, as I've have gotten to read about what I missed. Each episode's sorrid details plunge exponentially lower and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Despite the purging and insanity, he still manages to get the girl. I wouldn't recommend readers attempting his style for seducing the girls. Leave that to the pros. For the rest of us, we have PUA message boards, the Game (Neil Strauss), Professional Bachelor (Brett Tate). I see Max has another book coming out next year. Could be his last, I mean a liver can only take so much.

If you have that type of open mind and enjoy a laugh, then you would probably enjoy this book. His friends in this book are pretty humorous as well and he explains all the situations he has experienced in great detail, where you can image yourself actually in the same situation.

I LOVED this book. I have a soft spot for memoirs and personal stories, and this really entertained me. Not to mention I developped the biggest crush on Tucker Max. Read this and the other two books and I promise you will not be disappointed. AMAZZZINNGGGGG.

Good for a couple laughs but this is all fiction,

This review is from: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (Paperback)
Cleverly disguised as 'true stories' from a man who 'doesn't care about social norms', this book can be humourous at times. Each story contains certain tidbits or obscure 'facts' that make it seem as though it really happened. Upon closer inspection each story is simply fantasy that could never be proved. All this to say that the book does contain a couple of funny parts. However, the big draw to the author is that it isn't fiction. Unlike James Frey, the author does have a gift for writing

Loved this book,

I bought this book along with THE ALPHABET OF MANLINESS and loved them both. Great stuff here. Very new in its style and conception. If you're looking for "off the beaten path" types, this is the one to pick. Would also recommend the novel "F**k This Book" which is really well done.

Sober Truth,

This review is from: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (Paperback)
This book of anecdotes is juvenile and often crass. That being said it is also funny and despite the subject matter curiously innocent. Not a book to be read at a sitting as it can be repetitive but a great bathroom reader (ok! not a long sitting). Read for enjoyment not education. For those to whom the book does not ring true I say your life was just different, it mirrors my twenties.

I don't think I've laughed this hard in such a long time. Well written and very funny, I would definately suggest buying this book. We borrowed it from a friend and decided to just buy it because it was so funny.

Gave this book to the BF for christmas who is not so fond of reading. Its the only book I have ever seen him want to finish. So maybe the content is not all that great, but if it keeps him excercising his mind I'm game.

This book killed me...,

This review is from: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (Paperback)
I picked this book up in Seattle, on my way to Nashville. I couldn't put the book down. I was laughing on the plane ride all the way. Before I knew it, I was there! This is a great book for anyone looking for something different, unusual, and so down to earth. A little inapproperiate at times, but if I can appreicate it, anyone should! Very fun, a little rude, but an excellent, easy read.
